So here's an interesting twist in the ongoing Amber Harrison v Seven West Media saga.

The former Seven employee – who had an "inappropriate consensual sexual relationship" with CEO Tim Worner – has engaged the services of Melbourne barrister James Catlin in her ongoing battle with the broadcaster.

Why is that especially interesting? Well, firstly, because among Catlin's former clients are none other than Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. And secondly, because in a former life Catlin worked as a press secretary to none other than former Victorian premier and current Seven West Media board member, Jeff Kennett.

Isn't it funny how life works out sometimes?

Since news of the scandal broke just before Christmas, all eyes have been on Kennett and his fellow SWM board members to see what action – if any – they are going to take. Seven owner Kerry Stokes has publicly backed his embattled CEO and in the days following news of the scandal Seven announced an internal investigation, currently being carried out by the law firm Allens.

When asked if his client was concerned about a legal letter issued last week by Seven's lawyers in which they greeted rumours of Harrison contemplating a tell-all interview with 60 Minutes by referring her to the Proceeds of Crime Act, Catlin laughed out loud.

"I regard that as Rowan Atkinson hilarious," he replied. And to the suggestion that legal aid was being supplied to Ms Harrison on a pro-bono basis, he gravely informed us that he didn't work for free.

And on it goes.
