Final Flood Warning for the Onkaparinga River
Upper Onkaparinga above Verdun
Issued at 1:25 pm CDT on Wednesday 28 December 2016
Flood Warning Number: 3
Water levels in the Upper Onkaparinga River Catchment have peaked and will
continue to fall throughout the afternoon.
There is a possibility of further rainfall later on Wednesday which may result
in further river level rises and new flood warnings could be issued.
Upper Onkaparinga River above Verdun:
No further flooding is expected in the Upper Onkaparinga River above Verdun.
Flood Safety Advice:
People are advised to keep away from fast flowing water and not drive through
it.

FLOOD WATCH (NO 7) FOR THE NORTH EAST PASTORAL, PARTS OF EASTERN EYRE
PENINSULA, FLINDERS DISTRICTS AND UPPER ONKAPARINGA AND BREMER RIVER CATCHMENTS

A trough through central parts of the State will move northeastwards on
Wednesday and Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop in
the moist, tropical airmass near and ahead of the trough and are likely to
produce heavy rainfall.
Flooding and road closures are possible across the North East Pastoral, Eastern
Eyre Peninsula and the Flinders districts throughout Wednesday and into
Thursday. Further river rises are possible if the rainfall affects the Upper
Onkaparinga and Bremer River catchments.
Weather Forecast:
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop near and ahead of the trough.
Falls of 10 to 50 mm are possible over the North East Pastoral and Flinders
districts and eastern parts of the North West Pastoral and Eastern Eyre
Peninsula with isolated falls of 50 to 70 mm possible.

TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
for HEAVY RAINFALL, DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES
For people in the Flinders, Mid North, Riverland, Murraylands, North East
Pastoral and parts of the Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Upper South
East and North West Pastoral districts.
Issued at 7:43 pm Wednesday, 28 December 2016.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash
flooding, damaging wind gusts of 90 to 125 km/h and large hailstones in the
warning area over the next several hours. Destructive wind gusts in excess of
125 km/h are possible with thunderstorms in parts of the Flinders, Mid North and
Eastern Eyre Peninsula districts. Locations which may be affected include
Whyalla, Renmark, Clare, Roxby Downs, Leigh Creek and Moomba.
Port Augusta recorded a wind gust of 126 km/h at 6:18pm and 25 mm of rainfall in
less than 30 minutes.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Secure or put away loose items around your property.
* Move cars under cover or away from trees.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while storms are nearby.
The next warning is due to be issued by 10:45 pm.
If severe thunderstorms develop in the Adelaide Region, a more detailed Severe
Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.

Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

CANCELLATION SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
Issued at 4:22 pm Wednesday, 28 December 2016.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in South Australia.
The immediate threat of severe weather has passed, but the situation will
continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.
Winds averaging 65-80 km/h with gusts in excess of 90 km/h have been recorded at
numerous locations yesterday and overnight including Coober Pedy, Port Augusta,
Mount Crawford, Cleve and Woomera. The highest recorded wind gust was 120 km/h
at Mount Crawford early this morning. There have been reports of trees down and
power outages through Adelaide and the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Heavy rainfall has occurred through parts of the Mount Lofty Ranges overnight
with numerous locations receiving 60-70 mm in the 3 hours up until 3:30 am,
including Aldgate, Mount Torrens, Millbrook Reservoir and Sutton Creek. The
highest 24 hour rainfall to 9 am was 110 mm at Uraidla.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
* Beware of fallen trees or debris on the road.
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
No further warnings will be issued for this event.
