Waterloo (Russian: Ватерлоо) is a 1970 Soviet-Italian film directed by Sergei Bondarchuk and produced by Dino De Laurentiis. It depicts the story of the preliminary events and the Battle of Waterloo, and is famous for its lavish battle scenes.
It stars Rod Steiger as Napoleon Bonaparte and Christopher Plummer as the Duke of Wellington with a cameo by Orson Welles as Louis XVIII of France. Other stars include Jack Hawkins as General Thomas Picton, Virginia McKenna as the Duchess of Richmond and Dan O'Herlihy as Marshal Ney.
The film includes some 15,000 Soviet foot soldiers and 2,000 cavalrymen as extras—it was said that, during its making, director Sergei Bondarchuk was in command of the seventh largest army in the world. Fifty circus stunt riders were used to perform the dangerous horse falls. These numbers brought an epic quality to the battle scenes.
In 1814 French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, facing certain defeat at the hands of Britain, Austria, Prussia and Russia (the Sixth coalition), abdicates at the demand of his marshals. He is banished to Elba with 1,000 men, but escapes and returns to France. Ney, now serving the monarchy of Louis XVIII of France, is tasked with recapturing him, but he and his army defect to Napoleon. King Louis flees, Napoleon triumphantly enters Paris, and the European powers declare war.

Fearing the power-hungry Napolean, the kings and queens of Europe pressure him to step down as the emperor of France. He bids a touching farewell to his soldiers before departing for exile in Elba. That exile doesn't last long, however, and soon Louis XVIII and his court learn that Napolean has fled the small island and is already gathering some of his loyal men in an attempt to take control once more. The troops arrive in Paris and occupy the city without a shot being fired or a sword wielded. Napolean again becomes emperor, prompting much political maneuvering by the leaders of Russia, England, Austria, and Prussia, who unite to put an end to his ambitions once and for all. © 1970 Dino De Laurentiis Cinematografica SpA, renewed 1998 International Picture Investments Limited. You were sitting in a black limousine,
Dressed like a model in a fancy magazine.
I sat there and you trusted to look,
I pretended I was reading my book.
At once you said, `Now come on, let's dance.'
I said no and you missed your chance.
Now you, you, you found your Waterloo.
You, you, you found your Waterloo.
We met on the party of the embassy,
You came over and got a drink for me.
I accepted with a tender love,
For you that smile was more than enough.
At once you said, `Now come on, let's dance.'
I said no and you missed your chance.
Now you, you, you found your Waterloo.
You, you, you found your Waterloo.
