'I thought my wife had buggered it up': Husband's $2m Lotto shock

An elderly couple who have become WA's latest Lotto millionaires had to ask their grandson to check Saturday's winning numbers online after the husband thought his wife must have "buggered up" writing down the draw.

The struggling farming family from Serpentine-Jarrahdale soon learnt their luck had turned after it was confirmed the couple, who have been playing Lotto for 40 years together, had won the entire division one $2 million prize.

What happens when you win lotto?

It's a dream for many but only a handful of lucky people will get to experience the process of what happens if you come across those winning numbers.

"No one wants to admit things are tough, and farmers are some of the proudest people in Australia," the husband said.

"This money means we can cancel the [$300,000] loan [we were in the midst of securing] and support the family farm ourselves."

The ticket, which was sold at newsXpress Armadale Central, was worth just over $2 million.

Manager Emma Dean said the store was no stranger to Lotto luck having rewritten WA's Lotto history books in 2015.

"It's been less than two years since we sold a Powerball ticket worth an incredible $50 million," he said.

"It remains the biggest single Division 1 prize in the State's history."

The Serpentine-Jarrahdale couple are the fifth Lotto millionaires in WA in three weeks.
