Junior tennis player Maria Vittoria Viviani is disqualified from the Australian Open for striking a ball after losing a point and hitting a ball kid despite a quick apology.
The World Number one was shocked, falling to Mischa Zverev in 4 sets as the German outwitted him at every turn while Stan Wawrinka succeeded in 3 tiebreakers to defeat Italian Andreas Seppi and Venus Williams defeated Mona Barthel to progress to the quarter-finals.
That was what had the stunned late night crowd cheering as she turned to her box and shrugged when the defending champion's return of serve on match point flew like a child's miss-hit high and long.
For the first time ever neither of the men's or women's top ranked players has made the quarter finals.

Only hours before Kerber, Sir Andy was beaten in four sets by 50th-ranked Mischa Zverev.
It was the first Grand Slam tournament for Kerber since taking over the No. 1 ranking from Serena Williams (whom she beat to win the Australian Open last year) after the US Open.

"It's really special to play a number one player in the world on any stage and in any round. I believe this is my first number one win so I will take that." said Vandeweghe, he world number 35.
Remarkably Kerber was the player who looked bereft of answers and Vandeweghe the authoritative player right from the outset with her heavy hitting power game that bullied the top seed on serve.

"I guess I faked it a lot because I was feeling crap out there but 'fake until you make it' I guess," she said courtside.
"When you play tough players you can't be showing you are struggling or not feeling confident in yourself. Last year I cam here and didn't even win a match and not here I am."
Kerber won in Melbourne last year then followed it winning the US Open and ending the year world number one. Those victories seemed distant memories as she lost 6-2 6-3 to the 25-year-old american.
Vandeweghe now faces Spain's French Open champion Garbine Muguruza.
