Alan Jones, anti-vaxxers: Em Rusciano makes unapologetic 2Day FM breakfast debut

Comedian, writer and the self-described "herpes" of the radio world, Em Rusciano, is back on Australia's airwaves after a strong, unapologetic Sydney breakfast debut.

Rusciano and her co-host, comedian Harley Breen, took a swipe at conservative broadcaster Alan Jones, the patriarchy and anti-vaxxers during their first ever breakfast slot with 2Day FM.

Viral footage of a spat between two Channel Nine presenters spawns #jacketgate, Shannon Noll is arrested, Donald Trump can't find performers and Michelle Obama says goodbye.

Previous breakfast hosts Rove McManus and Sam Frost were booted off the coveted morning shift after failing to lift 2Day FM's ratings in the cutthroat Sydney market.

Rusciano and Breen are off to a good start. The duo have been showered with praise on social media, with many people arguing their show's feminist overtones were highly refreshing.

Indeed, the pair's first ever guest was journalist and commentator Tracey Spicer – who talked about the women's march in Sydney to protest the inauguration of US President Donald Trump.

The show cartwheeled between why Rusciano didn't take her husband's name ("My name is better," she half-joked) to how women's nipples change after they give birth.

Oh, and then there was the dig at Jones.

"Do you reckon Alan Jones likes Mariah?" Rusciano quipped.

"I doubt it," Breen said. "Actually, I reckon in private; Puts on some heels, just gets some lipstick and eats it."

The pair then broke into laughter.

"Wow, congratulations," Rusciano said. "I think we've gone Alan Jones, we've gone the patriarchy, we've now gone anti-vaxxers. Is there anyone left to offend?"

Listeners were definitely not put off, with the overwhelming number of social media commenters praising the pair's on-air dynamic.

"Shut the front door," one person wrote. "Loving the vibes, the jokes and infectious laughter! Keep it up."

"Loved it," another person said.

"One critique though... Too many ads. [I] want to hear more of you guys."

Rusciano has brushed aside concerns 2Day FM's breakfast slot is a "poisoned chalice", as well as the furore over the fact she isn't moving to Sydney full-time for the role.

Now the first show is done and dusted, producers will no doubt be praying the ratings will be as good as the initial feedback.

The Em Rusciano Radio Show, with Harley Breen, airs on 2Day FM from 6am to 9am every weekday.
