National Film Awards may refer to:

National Film Award for Best Music Direction

The National Film Award for Best Music Direction (the Silver Lotus Award) is an honour presented annually at the National Film Awards by the Directorate of Film Festivals to a musician who has composed the best score for films produced within the Indian film industry. The award was first introduced at the 15th National Film Awards in 1967. At the 42nd National Film Awards, an award for "Best Background Score" was instituted. It was however discontinued after that, and it was not until 2009 that the category was re-introduced. Throughout the past 46 years the government of India has presented a total of 53 awards—including award for Best Background score—to 40 different composers.

Although the Indian film industry produces films in around 20 languages and dialects, the recipients of the award include those who have worked in seven major languages: Hindi (17 awards), Telugu (7 awards), Malayalam (7 awards), Tamil (6 awards), Bengali (6 awards), Kannada (4 awards) and Marathi (2 awards).

Music director

A music director may be the director of an orchestra or concert band, the director of music for a film, the director of music at a radio station, the head of the music department in a school, the coordinator of the musical ensembles in a university, college, or institution (but not usually the head of the academic music department), the head bandmaster of a military band, the head organist and choirmaster of a church, or an Organist and Master of the Choristers (a title given to a Director of Music at a cathedral, particularly in England).

Orchestra

The title of "music director" or "musical director" is used by many symphony orchestras to designate the primary conductor and artistic leader of the orchestra. The term "music director" is most common for orchestras in the United States. With European orchestras, the titles of "principal conductor" or "chief conductor" are more common, which designate the conductor who directs the majority of a given orchestra's concerts in a season. In musical theatre and opera, the music director is in charge of the overall musical performance, including ensuring that the cast knows the music thoroughly, supervising the musical interpretation of the performers and pit orchestra, and conducting the orchestra.

Saregama India Ltd. is an Indian music label and content producer for Indian television.

Its music catalogue consists of more than 117,000 songs in 14 languages, built over a period of more than 100 years. It has daily and weekly TV shows currently on air with television networks in India.

Saregama’s head office is located in Mumbai, with other offices in Kolkata, Delhi & Chennai. It is listed on the NSE and BSE.

The company was founded in 1901. It produced the first song recorded in India,, and later moved into the production of cinema and television content, digital retailing, aggregation, radio programming and events.

History

EMI

In 1901, operations started as the first overseas branch of Electrical & Musical Industries Limited, EMI London.

The company was incorporated on 13 August 1946 with the name of ‘The Gramophone Co. (India) Limited’. The name of the Company was subsequently changed to ‘The Gramophone Co. of India Limited’ effective 1 April 1956. It was converted into a public company on 28 October 1968 and consequently the name of the company was changed to ‘The Gramophone Company of India Limited’.

National Film

National Film or National-Film was a German film production and distribution company which operated during the silent and early sound era. In the early 1920s it made an attempt to take over Erich Pommer's Decla Bioscop, but the projected merger failed and Decla instead joined with the major studio UFA. While Decla was generally in favour of joining with National, it was pressured by its creditors Deutsche Bank to merge with UFA.

National established a link with the Hollywood studio Warner Brothers, distributing the American company's films in the German market. The company continued to operate during the decade, but the arrival of sound film in 1929 strained its resources due to the increased costs of making films with sound. By this stage the German film industry was become increasingly dominated by the four biggest companies UFA, Terra Film, Tobis Film and Bavaria Film. Many medium-sized studios were either driven out of business or amalgamated.
