An ACT Police spokeswoman said protocol meant events of this nature take time to be dealt with. Roads were slowly reopened as the threat to the public was ruled out.

A combination of methods was used to assess the package however police would not provide detail on the events which took place.

No arrests have been made as yet, with investigations ongoing.

Last year there was a number of suspicious packages discovered over a period of time in Canberra, which led to police evacuations and investigations.

ACT Policing were forced to establish similar safety zones in Belconnen Mall in September and another surrounding the City Police Station in October, due to suspicious packages.
