The fire has been burning since Thursday when 15 fire crews were called out about 1pm. By 10pm that night there were 26 crews involved and SES workers were door-knocking to advise residents of the situation.

Some residents were evacuated on Thursday and more on Friday as the blaze continued to rage in the areas around Coolum and Peregian Springs.

No properties are currently under threat and up to 14 crews will continue to work throughout the day to backburn and strengthen containment lines.

Heavy smoke will affect Peregian Springs and surrounding areas, with residents advised to remain vigilant and monitor conditions throughout the day.

Yandina-Coolum Road will remain closed between Arcoona Road and Quanda Road for some time and anyone without a reason for being in the area should avoid the area.
