Huge oak tree uprooted and windows smashed in Auckland's wild weather
A Housing New Zealand complex in Onehunga has been damaged after a large oak tree fell on it.
"After the crash everything went quiet," local resident Steve Carter said.
Carter, who lives in a flat on the Mount Smart Rd property, said he heard a giant oak tree fall over about 10pm on Saturday.
"I heard a great big crash, branches breaking," Carter said.

"I though, what was it? Then another one of the tenants called the fire brigade and checked everyone was safe.
"It smashed though three different flat windows. I thought that we're all very lucky as no body was hurt."
He said it would be cleaned up professionally on Monday.
The strong winds have left a trail of downed trees and powerlines across Auckland.
