Box Hill piles on the runs against Mt Waverley in Sub-District Cricket clash

BOX Hill’s surge towards the Sub-District Cricket top-six continued on Saturday with the Mustangs piling on the runs against Mt Waverley.

A stand of 120 for the second wicket between in-form captain Paul Gloury (80) and opener Tom Haynes (40) was the backbone of Box Hill’s total of 290, with a half-century from James Pearson (50) helping provide an imposing total.

Winning the toss and electing to bat at Box Hill City Oval, the Mustangs lost Toby Mowat (11) cheaply when Mt Waverley captain Alex Deuchar made an early breakthrough.

However, Haynes and Gloury, who has now made two half tons and a century since Round 7, went about taking the game away from the Roos before both fell with the score at 136.

Justin Lampard (43) held the middle-order together, with Tom Newman (36) also among the runs down the order before Pearson knocked up a quick a half-century, which included seven boundaries, to cap off the innings.

Deuchar (3-54 from 14 overs) and First XI debutant Sam Kimber (3-21 off eight overs) both finished with three wickets.

After starting the season with just one win from the opening six rounds, a win next week would keep Box Hill in striking distance of the East/West top-six.
