Detectives are investigating an arson attack on a Tasmanian police station which the police union says it has raised repeated security warnings about.

The Bridgewater station on Hobart's northern outskirts was attacked on Sunday night.

Detectives said a mattress was placed on top of a roof at the complex and set alight about 10:30 pm.

No one was injured.

Union vice-president Gavin Cashion said the union had repeatedly raised the issue of security at stations with the department.

He said he last spoke to management about the station's vulnerability to attacks last September.

Tasmania Police said additional lights were recently installed at the station and further security measures were being explored.
