Adelaide's broken South Road bridge put on eBay, passes $100k in bids

A satirical selling of Adelaide's broken South Road bridge has attracted more than $100,000 in bids and several hysterical comments.

The eBay listing described the bridge as "a little wonky but still has plenty of life in it" and boasted the bridge would "make a great farm bridge for getting those milkers across the creek".

"You will need to bring a couple of mates with trolley jacks," the ad also stated.

Bids started a $1 but soon skyrocketed as people got in on the joke.

One prospective buyer asked, "Will you swap it for my '86 VL Holden Commodore" to get the reply: "Has it got mags?"

Another asked, "Does it come with a complementary box of No More Gaps?" and received the response: "Yeah, no problem."

Country bidders also got in on the action, with a request for it to be posted to Mount Gambier greeted with: "Ooooo, it would make a killer dive board for the lake. I'll drop it off for free."

A southern bidder asked if it could be swapped for Granite Island, and received the reply: "Does it come with the trams and the Clydesdales? My kids love them. If so, we can do business."

Page removed due to inability to deliver goods

The ad was removed just after 3:30pm.

A spokeswoman from eBay said any ads placed where goods would not be received were taken down from the site.

"Bids placed are not legally binding," she said.

South Road to reopen over weekend

The South Road bridge is expected to have temporary repairs completed tomorrow.

South Road, from Anzac Highway to Cross Road, was closed to traffic on Wednesday morning after fallen debris from the bridge was found.

The area is expected to be reopened over the weekend as soon as the area is deemed safe.
