Flood Watch for the Lower West District
Issued at 10:24 am WST on Saturday 11 February 2017
Western Australia Flood Warning Centre
A tropical low lies well offshore from the central west coast and will move
further away over the next few days. A rain band associated with this system
lies over southern parts of the State and will gradually ease during the day.
For the 24 hours to 9 am Thursday, widespread rainfall totals of 20 mm to 40 mm
were recorded in the eastern parts of the Avon River catchment. For the 24
hours to 9 am Friday, widespread rainfall totals of 50 mm to 100 mm were
recorded in the Lower West District. For the 24 hours to 9 am Saturday,
widespread rainfall totals of 10 mm to 30 mm with isolated falls of 56 mm were
recorded in the District.
River rises and areas flooding are likely to occur in the catchments in
response to recorded and forecast rainfall.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Murray River
A flood warning is current for the Avon River.
A flood warning is current for the Swan River
DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and
be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels.
Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and
travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Do not drive into water of unknown
depth and velocity.

Minor Flood Warning for the Swan River
Issued at 8:58 pm WST on Saturday 11 February 2017
Flood Warning Number: 5
Minor flooding will continue in the Swan River overnight Saturday into Sunday.
Recent heavy falls have led to flooding throughout the Avon River and Swan
River catchments. River levels are expected to continue rising in the lower
Swan River catchment during the weekend.
For the 24 hours to 9 am Sunday, no significant rainfall is forecast in the
Swan River catchment.
Swan River upstream of Walyunga:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Swan River upstream of Walyunga.
The Swan River at Walyunga is currently at 5.26 metres and steady. The Swan
River at Walyunga is expected to initially peak below the moderate flood level
(7.0 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday.
Swan River downstream of Walyunga:
Minor flooding may occur along the Swan River downstream of Walyunga.
Significant river rises are expected to continue in the lower Swan River
overnight Saturday into Sunday. Rapid rises and fast flowing water may be
hazardous to river users.
The Swan River at Meadow Street Bridge (Guildford) is currently at 1.44 metres
and rising.
The Swan River at Meadow Street Bridge (Guildford) is rising steadily. The
river may reach the minor flood level (2.0 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday
morning.
The Swan River at Barrack Street Jetty is currently at 0.76 metres and rising
with the tide.
The Swan River at Barrack Street Jetty will begin to rise in the next 24 hours.
The river is expected to remain below the minor flood level (1.60 m) overnight
Saturday into Sunday morning.

be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels. Travellers
need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel

Major Flood Warning for the Avon River
Issued at 8:57 pm WST on Saturday 11 February 2017
Flood Warning Number: 7
Significant river rises and areas of major flooding are being observed in the
Avon River catchment. Elevated river levels and areas of major flooding are
expected to continue in the Avon River catchment during Saturday into Sunday.
Major flooding is occurring in the Avon River at Stirling Tce Toodyay and in
the Mortlock River East at O'Driscolls Farm.
Avon River to Beverley:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Avon River to Beverley.
The Avon River at Beverley Bridge is currently above the minor flood level at
1.71 metres and steady. The Avon River at Beverley Bridge may reach the
moderate flood level (2.00 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday.
Avon River from Beverley to Northam:
Minor flooding is expected along the Avon River from Beverley to Northam.
The Avon River at Balladong Street York is currently at 2.32 metres and rising.
The Avon River at Balladong Street York is expected to remain around the minor
flood level (2.50 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday.
The Avon River at Northam Weir is currently at 0.86 metres and steady. The Avon
River at Northam Weir is expected to remain below the minor flood level (1.50
m) overnight Saturday into Sunday.
Avon River from Northam to Toodyay:
Major flooding is occurring along the Avon River from Northam to Toodyay.
The Avon River at Stirling Terrace Toodyay is currently at 3.94 metres and
steady. The Avon River at Stirling Terrace Toodyay is likely to remain around
the major flood level (4.00 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday.
