This part of India, on the east coast, is little known to the average tourist, and yet is famous for its legacy as a spiritual and cultural center. It has been a thriving center of Buddhism, Tantrisim, and Vishnaivism (Krishna Worship) over the centuries. The spiritual heritage of this area has left breath-taking monuments and vibrant traditions of all kind of arts and spiritual practices. In addition, Orissa is one of the last parts of India where tribal cultures are still able to thrive and maintain their intact traditional tribal life, and are left untouched in the depth of the jungles. Our trip, led by Phil Price, a geologist and ancient sites adventurist, and Revital Carroll, an Odissi dancer and Yoga and Qigong teacher, featured both travel through the ancient sites of Tantric India and tribal land, as well as practice of yoga, Qigong and/or dance. Our tour culminated with an inspirational dance demonstration by the experienced Odissi dancers in our group who anchored the renewal of an annual dance festival held in the tribal village of Athmallik.
