PlutoTV is strange by MeowMixSong in cordcutters

Since I can tune to it on my TV if I so choose. But then again, TLC is a "real" channel, but Vsauce is not.

If something is free people don't seem to appreciate it as much as if they have to pay for it. What is this phenomenon called? by lvnv702 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MeowMixSong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Implied value. If it's free, it must not work. If it's cheap, but still charged for, it is assumed to function.

You can still buy them, and I have one. But they do no good with laser, or instant-on radar.

AppleTV does support PSVue, and sling as well. It can also run DTVN if you wish. (in fact, ATT gives you one if you pre-pay for 3 months of service). Also, SlingTV actually has pretty decent quality, it's just the guide I think is lacking. Even PlutoTV does it right, and that's a free application. But the quality is fine.

You can login to the FS1 and 2 applications even though you have canceled service, because the billing cycle has not reset yet. You will have access for the remainder of the month, since you basically pre-paid for it. However, once the billing cycle goes through again, it will likely be revoked. Since you seem to like FS1 and FS2, if you subscribe to the orange package by SlingTV, those channels are included in your package. (as is Epix until 3/15). If you want ESPN as well, you'll need to subscribe to Blue+Orange. That will give you ESPN lineups, as well as FSN channels.

Regarding signing into Uverse, try a wired connection, or reset your box. Just so you're aware, using account credentials that aren't yours is technically illegal, and is piracy.

I also don't see any mention of an antenna in your setup. Go to TV Fool and run a report. Enter in your address, and it will tell you which providers are in your area, how to orient your antenna, and what type of antenna you will likely need.

Regarding your internet, that really depends. Comcast, Verizon, TWC, Earthlink, ATT, are all options. If all else fails, you could tether through your cell phone, or sign up for a WISP in your area. Go here to find a provider in your area:

It doesn't have to be thousands of channels or anything, I'm looking for something basically like FilmOnTV, but with domestic channels. FilmOnTV has a couple hundred channels, but I don't watch most of them. I basically want Science Channel, National Geographic, AMC, TruTV, and TBS. HBO would be nice too, but I'm not sure I'd even watch that, as I've not really had that channel since the 90's, so I don't even know what that channel has anymore.

Does something like this exist? XTV is close, but the UI sucks, and it doesn't have the Science channel.

The only 4k content available is from either Netflix, Amazon Prime, Blu-Ray discs, etc. There are no 4k broadcasters in the USA, and broadcast systems only go up to 1080i. The Amazon Fire TV (second generation), does support 4k. However, Kodi is merely an HTPC frontend. It is entirely dependent on what content you feed it. If you have a collection of locally stored media that's 4k, it will display. If your collection is in 360p, (dear god, why?), that is what will display.

Have you considered an antenna? Run a TV Fool, and enter in your address. It will tell you which broadcasters are available in your area, how to orient your antenna to pick them up, and what type of antenna you will likely need for your location. Broadcast TV looks much better than the compressed signal that the cable companies will feed you. Even 720p looks amazing.

Cable will always exist, but I foresee the traditional cable companies branching out to also be OTT providers in order to get their pockets lined with cash out of people's pockets who are not in the service area. We're already starting to see this with the launch of DTVN, and TVAnywhere applications.

I also predict that OTA will see a resurgence in the next 4 years, as more people turn away from traditional cable providers, but still want local news. Since each channel of the old NTSC standard can now carry up to 8 channels in SD, or 6 in HD, once the channel is allocated, it's simply a matter of contract deals with providers to set up subchannels.

However, despite the upcoming availability of options, I do expect that a majority of people will stick with cable and satellite providers, simply because that's what they're used to, and they have end-to-end system maintenance. This is not the case with OTT providers. When cable was first launching, many companies had promotions of "give us your rabbit ears, and you'll get a month for free!". I expect much of the same tactics to be used with consumer owned STBs.

Cable boxes have an interface that looks like they were designed in the late 90's and early 2000's, because they were. I haven't had a box for years, but I'm willing to bet that if I did sign up with TWC for digital cable, I'd still get a Motorola DCH3200.

The Sky60 actually isn't a very good antenna. It's pretty much a 30 mile antenna hooked up to an amplifier. Mohu Sky v. Clearstream 2.

That's what I've been doing too, but that's exactly the same solution that I use for OTA and analog cable. In that respect, it's actually worse service than just running the wire directly into my TV and watching TV that way.
