Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology
Northern Territory

Flood Watch for Western and Central Inland Rivers
Issued at 12:48 pm CST on Saturday 21 January 2017
Flood watch number: 7

Many parts of the Central and Western Inland Rivers are inundated from rainfall
over the past week. Rainfall totals up to 10mm were recorded in the Tanami and
Lasseter Districts in the 24 hours to 0900 CST this morning.

Daily rainfall totals of 10 to 20 mm may occur for the next few days over the
southern Northern Territory, possibly higher early next week. Raised water
levels in rivers and creeks as well as widespread areas of inundation are
expected to remain in many parts of the Central and Western Inland Rivers in
the coming weeks. Roads are expected to remain impassable and some communities
isolated for some time.

See www.bom.gov.au/australia/warnings/ to view all of the Bureau's current
warning products.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways
- Avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
- Stop children playing in or near floodwaters
- Create your own sandbags if there is flooding, by using pillowcases and
shopping bags filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your
home
- Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be
treated as live
