José Maldonado Maldonado, cantaor gitano uno de los grandes artista del cante flamenco, ha sido siempre conocido con el nombre artístico de PEPE ALBAICÍN, nació en Granada en el año de 1927, Pepe Albaicín, nació en una familia de aficionados al flamenco, se presentó a los 14 años en una velada jonda de la Vieja Plaza de Toros del Triunfo, comenzando así su vida profesional
Arraigado en Granada y con una treintena de discos grabados, sigue demostrando su temple y pureza de seguirillero y amante de la soleá. Fue el mejor cantaor gitano granaíno que interpretaba los cantes por derecho. Y sólo él canta el "Romance de la luna, luna" como zambra, "Antonio Torres Heredia" y "La Baladilla de los tres ríos" por milongas y "La Casada infiel" por tientos, con cierta indignación de los lorquianos y complacencia de la gente sencilla que ama la unión de los romances y la música del pueblo. El Albaicín (1906), de Isaac Albéniz (1860 - 1909) (score).
La suite Iberia es una suite para piano solo compuesta entre 1906 y 1909 por Isaac Albéniz (1860 - 1909) y es sin duda la obra más importante del autor. Constituye una de las composiciones más célebres de la música del siglo XX y de todos los tiempos y representa el culmen en la dificultad pianística y su duración completa es de más de hora y media. De entre sus intérpretes cabe destacar a Alicia de Larrocha (cuya versión es la que se escucha en este vídeo), Esteban Sánchez, Rafael Orozco, Rosa Sabater y Luis Fernando Pérez.
El cuaderno III de la Suite Iberia fue presentado en 1908, por Blanche Selva. Está dedicado a Mme. Marguerite Hasselmans. Las tres obras de este cuaderno son El Albaicín (por el barrio gitano de Granada), El Polo (palo del flamenco) y Lavapiés (barrio de Madrid).
El Albaicín es una pieza misteriosa con un juego rítmico que cambia constantemente: se trata de un cante jondo, algunas veces apasionado y otras melancólico. La primera sección presenta un motivo vivo que es repetidamente interrumpido por los rasgueos de la guitarra flamenca a la que el piano imita.

Made up of a network of winding streets and small squares rising up on a hill facing the Alhambra, the area is bordered by the Darro River and by the commercial centre of the city.
Once the site of the Moorish citadel, the Alcazaba, the area still retains a sense of its past in its architecture - many of the churches were built on the foundations of mosques. Today, parts of the Albaicín have taken on a distinctly North African feel with many tearooms and small shops selling Morroccan goods.

Rafael Orozco Flores (24 January 1946 -- 25 April 1996) was a Spanish classical pianist. Orozco is acclaimed as one of the great Spanish concert pianists.
Rafael Orozco came from a musical family in Córdoba and studied with José Cubiles, Alexis Weissenberg and Maria Curcio, the last and favourite pupil of Artur Schnabel. His professional career began after he won first prize in the 1966 Leeds International Piano Competition in the UK.
His large repertoire included works by Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert, Manuel de Falla, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Isaac Albéniz. He gave recitals on five continents and participated as soloist with the world's great orchestras, including Cleveland, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, and London. Orozco also participated in music festivals at Osaka, Praga, Berlin, Santander, Edimburg, Spoleto, and Aldeburgh.
Orozco's playing was used in Ken Russell's 1970 film The Music Lovers, based on the life of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
In 1986, Córdoba awarded Orozco the Gold Medal of the city and the title of Hijo Predilecto (Favourite Son).
Orozco died in 1996. The Conservatorio Superior de Música Rafael Orozco in Córdoba is named in his honour.

El Albayzín (also Albaicín or El Albaicín) is a district of present day Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain, that retains the narrow winding streets of its Medieval Moorish past. It was declared a world heritage site in 1984, along with the more famous Alhambra.
It rises on a hill facing the Alhambra and many tourists journey into the Albayzin primarily for the spectactular views of the Alhambra from the viewing point by the church of San Nicolas.
Highlights within the area include the remains of an Arab bath complex, Granada's archeological museum, and the church of San Salvador, built on the remains of a Moorish mosque. The Albayzin also contains some original Moorish houses and a wide-range of restaurants, including several streets whose eateries are inspired by North Africa.

Alicia de Larrocha i de la Calle (23 May 1923 – 25 September 2009) was a Spanish pianist from Catalonia. One of the great piano legends of the 20th century, Reuters called her "the greatest Spanish pianist in history",Time "one of the world's most outstanding pianists" and The Guardian "the leading Spanish pianist of her time".
She won multiple Grammy Awards and a Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts. She is credited with bringing greater popularity to the compositions of Isaac Albéniz and Enrique Granados. In 1995, she became the first Spanish artist to win the UNESCO Prize.
Alicia de Larrocha was born in Barcelona. She began studying piano with Frank Marshall at the age of three. Both her parents were pianists and she was also the niece of pianists. Beginning her career at the age of three, she gave her first public performance at the age of five at the International Exposition in Barcelona. She performed her first concert at the age of six at the World's Fair in Seville in 1929, and had her orchestral debut at the age of 11. By 1943, her performances were selling out in Spain. She began touring internationally in 1947, and in 1954 toured North America with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 1969, de Larrocha performed in Boston for the Peabody Mason Concert series.

El Albaicín (Iberia, VII) - Albéniz
El Albaicín (1906), de Isaac Albéniz (1860 - 1909) (score). La suite Iberia es una suite para piano solo compuesta entre 1906 y 1909 por Isaac Albéniz (1860 - 1909) y es sin duda la obra más importante del autor. Constituye una de las composiciones más célebres de la música del siglo XX y de todos los tiempos y representa el culmen en la dificultad pianística y su duración completa es de más de hora y media. De entre sus intérpretes cabe destacar a Alicia de Larrocha (cuya versión es la que se escucha en este vídeo), Esteban Sánchez, Rafael Orozco, Rosa Sabater y Luis Fernando Pérez. El cuaderno III de la Suite Iberia fue presentado en 1908, por Blanche Selva. Está dedicado a Mme. Marguerite Hasselmans. Las tres obras de este cuaderno son El Albaicín (por el barrio gitano de Granada), El Polo (palo del flamenco) y Lavapiés (barrio de Madrid). El Albaicín es una pieza misteriosa con un juego rítmico que cambia constantemente: se trata de un cante jondo, algunas veces apasionado y otras melancólico. La primera sección presenta un motivo vivo que es repetidamente interrumpido por los rasgueos de la guitarra flamenca a la que el piano imita. Alicia de Larrocha, piano. Con partitura incluida. -

Made up of a network of winding streets and small squares rising up on a hill facing the Alhambra, the area is bordered by the Darro River and by the commercial centre of the city. Once the site of the Moorish citadel, the Alcazaba, the area still retains a sense of its past in its architecture - many of the churches were built on the foundations of mosques. Rafael Orozco plays Albeniz "El Albaicin"
from Iberia, Book III rec. 1992 Rafael Orozco Flores (24 January 1946 -- 25 April 1996) was a Spanish classical pianist. Orozco is acclaimed as one of the great Spanish concert pianists. Rafael Orozco came from a musical family in Córdoba and studied with José Cubiles, Alexis Weissenberg and Maria Curcio, the last and favourite pupil of Artur Schnabel. His professional career began after he won first prize in the 1966 Leeds International Piano Competition in the UK. His large repertoire included works by Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert, Manuel de Falla, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Isaac Albéniz. He gave recitals on five continents and participated as soloist with the world's great orchestras, including Cleveland, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, and London. Orozco also participated in music festivals at Osaka, Praga, Berlin, Santander, Edimburg, Spoleto, and Aldeburgh. Orozco's playing was used in Ken Russell's 1970 film The Music Lovers, based on the life of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. In 1986, Córdoba awarded Orozco the Gold Medal of the city and the title of Hijo Predilecto (Favourite Son). Orozco died in 1996. The Conservatorio Superior de Música Rafael Orozco in Córdoba is named in his honour. (Wikipedia) -

La suite Iberia es una suite para piano solo compuesta entre 1906 y 1909 por Isaac Albéniz (1860 - 1909) y es sin duda la obra más importante del autor. Constituye una de las composiciones más célebres de la música del siglo XX y de todos los tiempos y representa el culmen en la dificultad pianística y su duración completa es de más de hora y media. De entre sus intérpretes cabe destacar a Alicia de Larrocha (cuya versión es la que se escucha en este vídeo), Esteban Sánchez, Rafael Orozco, Rosa Sabater y Luis Fernando Pérez.
El cuaderno III de la Suite Iberia fue presentado en 1908, por Blanche Selva. Está dedicado a Mme. Marguerite Hasselmans. Las tres obras de este cuaderno son El Albaicín (por el barrio gitano de Granada), El Polo (palo del flamenco) y Lavapiés (barrio de Madrid).
El Albaicín es una pieza misteriosa con un juego rítmico que cambia constantemente: se trata de un cante jondo, algunas veces apasionado y otras melancólico. La primera sección presenta un motivo vivo que es repetidamente interrumpido por los rasgueos de la guitarra flamenca a la que el piano imita.

Today, parts of the Albaicín have taken on a distinctly North African feel with many tearooms and small shops selling Morroccan goods.

Rafael Orozco Flores (24 January 1946 -- 25 April 1996) was a Spanish classical pianist. Orozco is acclaimed as one of the great Spanish concert pianists.
Rafael Orozco came from a musical family in Córdoba and studied with José Cubiles, Alexis Weissenberg and Maria Curcio, the last and favourite pupil of Artur Schnabel. His professional career began after he won first prize in the 1966 Leeds International Piano Competition in the UK.
His large repertoire included works by Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert, Manuel de Falla, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Isaac Albéniz. He gave recitals on five continents and participated as soloist with the world's great orchestras, including Cleveland, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, and London. Orozco also participated in music festivals at Osaka, Praga, Berlin, Santander, Edimburg, Spoleto, and Aldeburgh.
Orozco's playing was used in Ken Russell's 1970 film The Music Lovers, based on the life of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
In 1986, Córdoba awarded Orozco the Gold Medal of the city and the title of Hijo Predilecto (Favourite Son).
Orozco died in 1996. The Conservatorio Superior de Música Rafael Orozco in Córdoba is named in his honour.

In the narrow valleys between the Alhambra and Albaicin Hills, the gentle River Darro makes its age-old journey toward the city centre. The houses along the riverside have been restored to a high standard with typical wooden balconies, decorated façades and barred windows. The Banos Arabes are ancient Arab baths that date back to the 11th century. The mighty La Alcazaba Fortress rises up from the top of a hill and is separated from the rest of the Alhambra by huge walls. The city extends to the plains below and in the background are the snow-covered mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The huge Torre De La Vela (Watchtower) is the highest point of the complex and was the first building of the Nasrids Dynasty. The Alhambra served as military headquarters, administrative centre and royal residence until the expulsion of the Moors by Christian militia. The interior of the Alhambra is like a hidden treasure that lies expectantly beyond plain red walls, waiting to be discovered. The most famous of the courtyards is the Lion Yard of which the well and ornate arcades took several years to complete. The fiery south of Spain is a fantasy world situated between Europe and Africa. Granada, among many other spectacles, the famous cathedral must be seen which was made by the same artists who were the makers of the Mallorca Cathedral. The sepacore of Catholic, Isabella and Ferdinand makes a lasting impression on the spectator. The art work made of Carrara marble looks as if it was a white wedding bed with a couple lying on it. Since the 7th century B.C., Iberians, Romans and West Goths had settled in Granada but it was during the Arab rule that the city first gained prominence. Sixty thousand Muslims once lived in the old Moorish city complex on the hill above the ancient district of Albaicin.
Granada has a truly unique and captivating atmosphere, one that has inspired poets, musicians and countless travelers from all over the world. A lively and contemporary university city, at the same time it is the guardian of an historic past that draws in a multitude of tourists keen to experience its special charm.
In the narrow valleys between the Alhambra and Albaicin Hills, the gentle River Darro makes its age-old journey toward the city centre. The houses along the riverside have been restored to a high standard with typical wooden balconies, decorated façades and barred windows. The Banos Arabes are ancient Arab baths that date back to the 11th century.
The mighty La Alcazaba Fortress rises up from the top of a hill and is separated from the rest of the Alhambra by huge walls. The city extends to the plains below and in the background are the snow-covered mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The huge Torre De La Vela (Watchtower) is the highest point of the complex and was the first building of the Nasrids Dynasty.
The Alhambra served as military headquarters, administrative centre and royal residence until the expulsion of the Moors by Christian militia. The interior of the Alhambra is like a hidden treasure that lies expectantly beyond plain red walls, waiting to be discovered. The most famous of the courtyards is the Lion Yard of which the well and ornate arcades took several years to complete.
The fiery south of Spain is a fantasy world situated between Europe and Africa. A land of passion and ancient culture, Granada is its shining pearl set amid the evocative landscape of Andalusia.

Along side the chapel is the cathedral, which is considered to be the first renaissance church in spain .
The excursion will continue with a panoramic trip through the main street of Granada Reyes Católicos, Gran Via, and Hospital Real (Royal Hospital), founded by the Catholic Monarchs in 1504 next to the Jardines del Triunfo. We shall arrive to the Carthusian Monastery, a baroque masterpiece whose construction began in 1505 and lasted three centuries, and of which the holy of hollies and the vestry are the most worthy aspects. From there we shall go on the old moorish quarter of the Albaycin, where we shall wind through the narrow streets until we reach the Mirador de San Nicholas, a vantage point which offers magnificent views of the Alhambra, Granada and Sierra Nevada.
Then we willl arrive to Sacromonte, a typical quarter where the gypsy population lives in caves. We will visit one of the most representative caves, where a drink will be served.

In the 7th century B.C., first the Iberians and then the Romans and Visigoths settled here in the spacious hill area above the River Darro. However, it was only under the rule of the Moors, when Granada became an independent Islamic kingdom, that the region began to flourish. Even today, the splendor of the former Islamic monarchy is highlighted by the world famous and legendary Alhambra Palace. Due to a peace treaty with the Christians' military leaders, Mohammed The First had the impressive castle built. Over the years, the Alhambra was extended and its architecture was embellished by its royal inhabitants until the town finally fell to the Catholic Kings. In Albaicin, the glorious atmosphere of old Granada can still be felt amid its buildings, its lanes and even in the air. The architectural legacy of the Moors continues to enchant all those who experience it, right up to the present day.

La vista vuela sobre calles y plazas, dejándose ver, entre tejados y azoteas, los templos de San Cristobal, San Bartolomé, San Nicolás, la ermita de San Miguel (Alto), el conjunto de Santa Isabel la Real, las murallas albayzineras, la vegetación de los cármenes, el Generalife y la Alhambra sobre la Sabika, recortando su perfil sobre la Sierra Nevada. Y el cielo y el sol de Granada abriéndose hacia la Vega, con Sierra Elvira susurrando historias al oído de la gran ciudad.
En este suelo albayzinero, tierra de supervivencia y de rebeldía, de memoria que se resiste a ser borrada, la Balada del que nunca fue a Granada, de Rafael Alberti tonada por Paco Ibáñez sirve de banda sonora a estas imágenes.

The architects made the dreams of the Arabian Nights in this group of buildings, everything that can be fancied by the imaginative people of the orient, pump, luxury and beauty. The buildings on the garden are in perfect harmony with each other and with the landscape. In the age of the moor, the Alhambra functioned as a place and a barrack for soldiers. It was made of complete oil city by minarets - , cemeteries and stables.
Only the royal residences were preserved with the present. Even these are different from palaces meant by western terminology. They have no unified façade, shaft, and cemetery. The array of one or two floors set of rooms around the inner court yard is connected by a complex system of corridors.
The stalactite volt of Sala De Los Hermanas is comprised of 5000 small box-like cells. Its walls are ornamented by quotations from the Koran and the buildings around the Court Of The Lions with the accommodation for the wives, children and all the elderly.
The architect exploited the panoramic view in their design as well as the plants and the water that maybe seen from the arch windows. The inner courts are ornamented with fountains, lakes, cools, water jets, nicely trimmed shrubs, avenues and palm trees.
Granada, among many other spectacles, the famous cathedral must be seen which was made by the same artists who were the makers of the Mallorca Cathedral. The sepacore of Catholic, Isabella and Ferdinand makes a lasting impression on the spectator. The art work made of Carrara marble looks as if it was a white wedding bed with a couple lying on it.

Lavapiés (14:27) El cuaderno III de la Suite Iberia de Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909) fue presentado en 1908, por Blanche Selva. Está dedicado a Mme. Marguerite Hasselmans. Las tres obras de este cuaderno son El Albaicín (por el barrio gitano de Granada), El Polo (palo del flamenco) y Lavapiés (barrio de Madrid). El Albaicín es una pieza misteriosa con un juego rítmico que cambia constantemente: se trata de un cante jondo, a veces apasionado y otras melancólico. La primera sección presenta un motivo vivo que es repetidamente interrumpido por los rasgueos de la guitarra flamenca a la que el piano imita. El Polo es una pieza de ámbito tranquilo, sobre todo en comparación con la obra anterior. El Polo es un palo del flamenco y nos presenta un cante jondo sosegado. Lavapiés mantiene un continuo ritmo de habanera que se entremezcla con el tono del armadillo. Es una de las piezas más duras de toda la suite, además por sus constantes cambios de ritmo. el corazón navideño de la ciudad latió al compás del cante y del sentimiento flamenco más puro y auténtico, en un escenario ya tradicional: la plaza del Ayuntamiento y envuelto todo ello en el espíritu de la "zambombá", que alcanzó su cuarta edición contando con la presencia de Curro Albayzín y la Zambra del Sacromonte. Un auténtico derroche de arte que puso colofón a todos los preludios festivos de la navidad sexitana dentro del extraordinario plantel de actividades promovidas por la Concejalía de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Almuñécar.

El cuaderno III de la Suite Iberia de Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909) fue presentado en 1908, por Blanche Selva. Está dedicado a Mme. Marguerite Hasselmans. Las tres obras de este cuaderno son El Albaicín (por el barrio gitano de Granada), El Polo (palo del flamenco) y Lavapiés (barrio de Madrid).
El Albaicín es una pieza misteriosa con un juego rítmico que cambia constantemente: se trata de un cante jondo, a veces apasionado y otras melancólico. La primera sección presenta un motivo vivo que es repetidamente interrumpido por los rasgueos de la guitarra flamenca a la que el piano imita.
El Polo es una pieza de ámbito tranquilo, sobre todo en comparación con la obra anterior. El Polo es un palo del flamenco y nos presenta un cante jondo sosegado.
Lavapiés mantiene un continuo ritmo de habanera que se entremezcla con el tono del armadillo. Es una de las piezas más duras de toda la suite, además por sus constantes cambios de ritmo.

Un auténtico derroche de arte que puso colofón a todos los preludios festivos de la navidad sexitana dentro del extraordinario plantel de actividades promovidas por la Concejalía de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Almuñécar.
