Mercedes-Benz 'Style Edition' is the world's most luxurious golf cart

Your ball might wander a bit from tee to green but your sense of accomplishment won't when you're at the wheel of possibly the world's most prestigious golf cart.

At the British Golf Open, Mercedes-Benz unveiled its 'Style Edition' golf cart, which it developed in collaboration with golf cart specialists, Garia.

With a governed top speed of 30km/h and riding on 14-inch wheels, the 'Merc' is bound to raise some eyebrows with the plaid trouser brigade.

Features include an integrated 25cm touchpad that tells you everything from your score, to the location of the 19th hole. The screen can also be used to turn the headlights on and off, work the speed-sensitive windscreen wipers and monitor the battery.

Speaking of which, the Merc is good for up to 80 kilometres per charge, depending on whether you cruise around in the Eco setting, or give it a good hammering in the neck-snapping 11kW Sport mode. The electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery that takes around six hours to charge.

Fancy a bit of AC/DC between holes? No problem, the Style Edition comes with a four-speaker sound system that is sure to have the rules committee tut-tutting.

Fairway fridge

The interior is a pleasant place to be with ambient cabin lighting, woodgrain trim, carbon fibre roof, and cream leather seats. A small rear spoiler not only keeps the Merc planted firmly on the fairway at high speed (if you manage to bypass the engine governor), it also doubles as a holder for two golf bags, slanted rearwards for ease of access.

Most importantly, Mercedes-Benz has been thoughtful enough to hide a refrigerator beneath the bench seat, as well as glass and bottle holders on the instrument panel, should the need for a raucous 'hole-in-one' celebration arise. Plus, just in case you get a little too liberal with visiting the fridge, the accelerator and brake pedals have a plus and minus printed boldly on them respectively, meaning you should be able to make it back to the clubhouse without too much trouble.

Whether Mercedes-Benz will actually be manufacturing the Style Edition has not been confirmed. "It's certainly a possibility," says a spokesman from Mercedes-Benz Australia.
