The Washington Metro, commonly called Metro and branded Metrorail, is the rapid transit system serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area in the United States. It is administered by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), which also operates Metrobus service under the Metro name. Besides the District, Metro serves several jurisdictions in Maryland and Virginia. In Maryland, Metro provides service to Montgomery and Prince George's counties; in Virginia, to Fairfax and Arlington counties and the independent city of Alexandria. The system is currently being expanded into Loudoun County, Virginia. The Metro service area is largely coextensive with the inner ring of the Washington metropolitan area. Opened in 1976, the network now includes six lines, 91 stations, and 117 miles (188 km) of route.
Metro is the second-busiest rapid transit system in the United States in number of passenger trips, after the New York City Subway. There were 215.3 million trips, or 712,843 trips per weekday, on Metro in fiscal year 2015. In June 2008, Metro set a monthly ridership record with 19,729,641 trips, or 798,456 per weekday. Fares vary based on the distance traveled, the time of day, and the type of card used by the passenger. Riders enter and exit the system using a stored-value card in the form of a paper magnetic stripe farecard or a proximity card called SmarTrip.

OH METRO... how we love thy quirks and oddities! Always an adventure every time I ride! One of the train drivers honked at me, probably because I was standing too close to the edge of the platform... Filmed in July 2014, with LuminousCorona (Joey) and SkullCap (Miles.)

Join me in something a little different on this channel. It's time to explore another mode of transportation: The Subway. The Washington DC Metrorail System is one of the most well known and iconic subway systems in the United States. In this video I ride on the newest line, the Silver Line, which runs from Largo Town Center east of DC to the Tyson's Corner area by the Dulles Corridor, and will eventually run all the way to Dulles Airport after construction is complete. This video features an east bound train from the end of the line at Wiehle-Reston East to Metro Center, one of the main transfer stops for the Metro. Enjoy! Recorded on August 5, 2016.
This demonstration shows you how to navigate the metro (subway) in Washington D.C. and how to use SmartTrip cards. I hope you find this video helpful and have a great time in our nation's capitol.

Take it from a veteran D.C. reporter: Metrorail is the way to get into and out of the District on the Fourth of July. But there are some tips you should know that will make your trip easier. And, if you're seeing the fireworks (and riding home on Metro), don't miss the last two tips on my list -- they are crucial. Here goes: 1. Make sure everyone in your party has a SmarTrip fare card. There is a one dollar per ride surcharge for anyone using the old paper farecards. (I call it the "tourist tax.") SmartTrip cards are now for sale in vending machines at all Metro stations. It's a ten dollar transaction; the machine will issue you a farecard with $8. of value on it. You can purchase a new SmarTrip card with cash or with a credit card. 2. Make sure there's enough money on your existing far...

http://www.expedia.com/Washington.d178318.Destination-Travel-Guides Take in the many splendors of the nation’s capital when you arrive at Washington, D.C. Your Washington, D.C. tour should start at the National Mall, where you’ll find monuments, memorials, and government buildings instead of tons of shopping. If you’d like to get around town easily but don’t want to rent a car, the Capital Bikeshare program will let you cruise around the city without wasting gas or getting stuck in traffic. Check out the Watergate Hotel and Kennedy Center when you stop at Foggy Bottom, then move on to Georgetown, the oldest district in D.C. It’s filled with 18th-century buildings and, of course, the university itself. After a stop at the National Cathedral, make your way to the Smithsonian National Zoo,...

Welcome aboard the DC Metro's Blue Line. This ride is from the front car 6083, in the seat behind the cab with a view into the cab and out the front window. The video is mainly underground in the first half as we ride under DC and into Arlington, however as we approach Arlington Cemetery we head to grade level at 6:49 in the video. Once again as we approach Reagan National Airport at 13:37 in the video we once again head above ground. On the day this was recorded (November 7th, 2015), trains were single tracking between Braddock Road and King Street, so you can see some trains in the opposite direction switching off the track as we wait ahead of Braddock Road. This video was recorded with an iPad 4 on Saturday, November 7th, 2015, from around 2:45PM to about 3:15PM. Thanks for watching!
