Don Ameche (/əˈmiːtʃi/; May 31, 1908 – December 6, 1993) was an American actor and voice artist with a career spanning almost 60 years.
After touring in vaudeville, he featured in many biographical films, including The Story of Alexander Graham Bell (1939). He continued to appear on Broadway, as well as on radio and TV, where he was host and commentator for International Showtime, covering circus and ice-shows all over Europe. Ameche was married to his wife Honore for 54 years, and they had six children.
Ameche won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Cocoon (1985).
Ameche was born Dominic Felix Amici in Kenosha, Wisconsin on May 31, 1908. His father, Felice Amici, was a bartender from Italy from Montemonaco, Ascoli Piceno, Marche. His mother, Barbara Etta Hertel, was of Scottish, Irish, and German ancestry. He had three brothers, Umberto (Bert), James (Jim Ameche), and Louis, and four sisters, Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary and Anna. Ameche attended Marquette University, Loras College, and the University of Wisconsin, where his cousin Alan Ameche played football and won the Heisman Trophy in 1954. Ameche had intended to study law, but he found theatricals more interesting and decided on a stage career.

LUX RADIO THEATER: MANHATTAN MELODRAMA - WILLIAM POWELL & DON AMECHE
Actors: Ryan Chamberlain (producer), Leanne Bernard (actress), Patrick Horne (producer), Patrick Horne (actor), Patrick Horne (director), Kevin Chamberlain (actor), John Say (actor), Pandora Spocks (editor),
Plot: "Speak-It!" Pictures orchestrated a cast of talent to revive a vintage NBC radio broadcast of Mae West and Don Ameche's infamous skit portraying Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. On the eve of December 12, 1937 and during the Chase and Sanborn Hour show, with a plot (approved by censors) that was innocent enough, the characteristic inflection in Miss West's delivery created a nationwide uproar. Up and down the country people threatened "crusades against smut on the radio". NBC was bombarded with complaints, nationwide, denouncing the show and thusly Miss West's radio career came to an abrupt end. This production breathes new life into on an old scandal, which only existed through audio recordings. The actors are lip-synching to the original broadcast.

War correspondent Mitchell is stationed in London in September 1940, working for Consolidated Press of America. Mitch is ambitious to get his news of the coming German invasion.
One of my favourite films of all time. Very nice and makes a change from conflict based media. From Wikipedia: "An aged Henry Van Cleve (Don Ameche) enters the opulent reception area of Hell, to be personally greeted by "His Excellency" (Laird Cregar). Henry petitions to be admitted (fully aware of the kind of life he had led), but there is some doubt as to his qualifications. To prove his worthiness (or rather unworthiness), he begins to tell the story of his dissolute life." I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It is my understanding that this film is now in the public domain which is why I downloaded it in the first place and upload it here, now. I make no claims of ownership of this content but am merely sharing it with those who may appreciate it.
When Jon (Tom Selleck), a successful stockbroker who is living a good life with a wife and kids, visits his mother, Mildred (Anne Jackson), in the hospital, he's unaware of how chaotic his life will soon become. After his father, Harry (Don Ameche), burns down his mobile home, Jon invites his parents to stay with him. Soon, Jon loses his job, his wife (Wendy Crewson) leaves with his children and his sister, Arlene (Christine Ebersole), moves in with her sons. When his parents' attempt to intervene only leads to more turbulence... Initial release: May 8, 1992 / Production company: 20th Century Fox

A classy biopic of the inventor of the telephone, which was for a while called the "Ameche" in the movie's honor. Stars Don Ameche, Loretta Young, and Henry Fonda. With Charles Coburn, Spring Byington, Gene Lockhart, and Young's sisters Polly Ann and Georgiana. Directed by Irving Cummings. I don't own this movie; I just want to give it a wider audience.
Sleep My Love (1948) Mystery-Claudette Colbert Sleep, My Love is a 1948 feature film directed by Douglas Sirk, and starring Claudette Colbert, Robert Cummings and Don Ameche. Alison Courtland wakes up in the middle of the night on board a train, but she cannot remember how she got there. Danger and suspense ensue. Stars: Claudette Colbert, Robert Cummings, Don Ameche
One of my favorite actors is William Powell and her is another radio program he starred in during the golden days of radio. This originally aired on September 9, 1940. We hope you will enjoy!

MESSAGE TO VIEWERS: [Click on "Show More" for rest of this message & description] I am sad to find out that several people have copied and re-posted most of my videos, using my exact same titles (this video is among over 400 videos that they have copied from me). The descriptions are either shown as I originally wrote them, partially shown, completely left out, or completely changed!! These copied videos often have different thumbnail pictures but sometimes they're the same. I have spent hundreds of hours preparing and uploading these videos and it is VERY UPSETTING & DISCOURAGING to discover this RAMPANT COPYING & RE-POSTING! It is just PLAIN MEAN! I would appreciate it very much if you would avoid any videos by "All Star Party" & "Kirdie Ferdin". Thanks to all of you for your views...
