Free off peak MyWay travel for senior and concession card holders
Transport Canberra
A 12 month trial of free off peak MyWay travel for senior and concession card holders (excludes student and tertiary card holders) as well as new fares for public transport in Canberra will come into effect on Saturday 14 January 2017.
Eligible senior and concession card holders who travel using MyWay will be able to take advantage of this initiative during stated Transport Canberra off peak travel times which are: between 9am – 4.30pm and after 6pm weekdays and all day Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays.
To take advantage of free travel you just need to tap on and tap off the bus correctly using MyWay during the stated off peak periods.
MyWay fares will also increase by a maximum of 2.7% and cash fares increasing between 10 and 20 cents depending on the ticket type.
Significant savings can be made when travelling with a MyWay card. Discounts apply for card holders as well as monthly and daily fare caps. Adults travelling during peak times receive a discount of 36% when using MyWay compared to paying for a single cash fare. Further discounts are also available when you top up your MyWay card using autoload or B-Pay.

Access Canberra Fyshwick closure

Access Canberra is moving to new locations, offering faster transactions, more services and less waiting in line.
Access Canberra Fyshwick shopfront has closed. Land titles and revenue services, previously available at our Fyshwick shopfront, are now located at Dame Pattie Menzies House, 16 Challis Street, Dickson. These services will only be available at this new location. Other services previously offered at this location are available at our existing Access Canberra Service Centres in Tuggeranong, Gungahlin, Belconnen and will be available at the new service centre in Woden when it opens.
The existing Access Canberra Woden shopfront is relocating to the brand new Access Canberra Service Centre in the Cosmopolitan Building, Woden Interchange in February 2017. The new Woden Service Centre will offer a number of new services, offer faster transactions and provide touch screen terminals so you can complete your transactions easily online. Payments at the new service centre will be electronic only using debit or credit card.
Be a backyard lifeguard

Every year children under five drown in backyard pools - accidents we can help prevent. As a community we are all responsible for safety around pools and together we can reduce the risk of children drowning in swimming pools in the ACT. The Backyard Lifeguard website will give you information and advice on how you can help keep our kids safe this summer. It provides details on the importance of:
- close supervision of children in and around the pool
- knowing CPR, which can save lives and, if performed early, help reduce serious or long-term injuries
- checking pool barriers meet current safety standards.
Ban on Portable Ethanol Burners

As of 22 December, retailers are not permitted to sell decorative alcohol-fuelled burners in the Australian Capital Territory, unless they:
- have a power output of more than 4.5 kW, or
- require installation in a fixed position, or
- are designed for warming food.

Green bin pilot program

The ACT Government has opened registrations as part of the green waste bin pilot program and residents in Weston Creek and Kambah are encouraged to sign up now.
Residents living in the suburbs of Chapman, Duffy, Fisher, Holder, Rivett, Stirling, Waramanga, Weston and Kambah are now able to register to be part of the pilot.
Residents who opt-in to register will receive a 240 litre lime-green lidded green waste bin starting from March 2017 for all their garden vegetation waste. Kerbside collections will start in April 2017.
A one-off fee of $50 will be required at the time of registering, unless you are a concession card holder.
The pilot will be reviewed after one year and the next regional roll-out will be in Tuggeranong in 2017. Other suburbs are expected to follow to ensure the program is rolled out effectively across the territory.
ACT Medicinal Cannabis Medical Advisory Panel - Expressions of Interest

The ACT Government committed $33 million as part of the 2016-17 ACT Budget for a new 50 metre pool at Stromlo Forest Park. The new facility will include a 50 metre pool, program pool (used for learn to swim or aqua aerobics), reception, kiosk, administration area and change rooms.
Lower Cotter Catchment Draft Reserve Management Plan
Have your say on the management of the Lower Cotter Catchment. The draft management plan proposes actions to guide further rehabilitation of the catchment and protect the quality of Canberra’s drinking water.
