Magazines are publications, usually periodical publications, that are printed or electronically published (the online versions are called online magazines.) They are generally published on a regular schedule and contain a variety of content. They are generally financed by advertising, by a purchase price, by prepaid subscriptions, or a combination of the three. At its root, the word "magazine" refers to a collection or storage location. In the case of written publication, it is a collection of written articles. This explains why magazine publications share the word root with gunpowder magazines, artillery magazines, firearms magazines, and, in various languages although not English, retail stores such as department stores.
By definition, a "magazine" paginates with each issue starting at page three, with the standard sizing being 8 3/8" x 10 7/8". However, in the technical sense a "journal" has continuous pagination throughout a volume. Thus Business Week, which starts each issue anew with page one, is a magazine, but the Journal of Business Communication, which starts each volume with the winter issue and continues the same sequence of pagination throughout the coterminous year, is a journal. Some professional or trade publications are also peer-reviewed, an example being the Journal of Accountancy. Academic or professional publications that are not peer-reviewed are generally professional magazines. The fact that a publication calls itself a "journal" does not make it a journal in the technical sense. The Wall Street Journal is actually a newspaper.
Howard Devoto (born Howard Andrew Trafford 15 March 1952 in Scunthorpe) is an English singer-songwriter, who began his career as the frontman for the punk rock band Buzzcocks, but then left to form Magazine, one of the first post-punk bands. After Magazine, he went solo and later formed indie band Luxuria.
His singing has been characterized as a "speak-sing voice that veered between amused croon and panicked yelp."
Born in Scunthorpe, Devoto grew up in Nuneaton, Warwickshire and Moortown, Leeds, where he attended Leeds Grammar School and met and befriended future Buzzcocks manager Richard Boon. In 1972, he went to Bolton Institute of Technology (now the University of Bolton) to study psychology, and, later, humanities. During these college years, he met his future bandmates Pete Shelley and Ben Mandelson.
Inspired by the Sex Pistols, Devoto co-formed Buzzcocks with singer/guitarist Pete Shelley in 1976. He left the band in February 1977 after only one record (the Spiral Scratch EP) and a small number of performances.
John Alexander McGeoch (25 August 1955 – 4 March 2004) was a Scottish guitarist who played with several bands of the post-punk era, including Magazine, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Visage and Public Image Ltd.
He was described as "one of the most influential guitarists of his generation" and he was also considered "the new wave Jimmy Page". In 1996, he was listed by Mojo in their "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" for his work on the Siouxsie and the Banshees song "Spellbound".
McGeoch was born and brought up in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, and acquired his first guitar when he was 12. He first learned to play guitar learning blues songs, including the repertoire of Hendrix and Clapton. In 1970 he played in a local band called The Slugband. In 1971 he moved to London with his family, and in 1975 he began to attend Manchester Polytechnic, where he studied art.
McGeoch had a degree in fine art and an ongoing interest in photography, painting and drawing. He provided some of the cover art for his future band The Armoury Show, years later.

Magazine - Real Life (FULL ALBUM) 1979 Magazine are an English post-punk band active from 1977 to 1981, then reformed in 2009. The band was formed by Howard Devoto after leaving punk band Buzzcocks in early 1977. Devoto had decided to create a more progressive and less "traditional" rock band. Magazine reunited in 2009 for a UK tour, with almost all the remaining and "classic" line-up, with the exception of guitarist John McGeoch who died in 2004. He was replaced by Noko, who played with Devoto in Luxuria. Magazine released an album of new material, No Thyself, in October 2011, followed by a short UK tour. Music video by Magazine performing The Light Pours Out Of Me.
The second album from British post-punk group Magazine. I'm embarrassed to admit it but instead of liking this instantly like I did "Real Life", I had to let this one grow on me. But now I can say that this is an amazing record that is, in some ways, superior to it's predecessor. Instead of rehashing the zany and somewhat poppy energy of "Real Life", they went for a sinister, gory but equally engaging sound for the second album. Stand out tracks are "Rhythm of Cruelty", "Back to Nature", "Talk to the Body" and "Permafrost". "Cutout shapes in Secondhand Daylight" 01. Feed the Enemy (0:00) 02. Rhythm of Cruelty (5:46) 03. Cut-Out Shapes (8:50) 04. Talk to the Body (13:36) 05. I Wanted Your Heart (17:13) 06. The Thin Air (22:20) 07. Back to Nature (26:28) 08. Believe That I Understan...
In 'La La Land,' the Golden Globe-winning movie-musical by Damien Chazelle, Emma Stone plays an aspiring actress — who occasionally bursts into song. Stone, who previously starred in the Broadway revival of 'Cabaret,' can carry a tune IRL, too. Here, she flexes her vocal muscles with a rich rendition of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive." The Correct Use of Soap is the third album by British post-punk band Magazine, released by Virgin Records in 1980. It marks a return to form of sorts to the punkier riffs and faster rhythms of Real Life after their more experimental album Secondhand Daylight. As such, it contains some of Magazine's best-known and most popular songs, including the singles "A Song from Under the Floorboards" and "Sweetheart Contract" and their cover of Sly and the Family Stone's "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)". "Because You're Frightened" 0:00 "Model Worker" 3:57 "I'm a Party" 6:50 "You Never Knew Me" 9:55 "Philadelphia" 15:22 "I Want to Burn Again" 19:30 "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" (Sylvester Stewart) 24:48 "Sweetheart Contract" 28:28 "Stuck" 31:49 "A Song from Under the Floorboard...

We drank from cups on standard issue
Sofas under scaffolding
Informed sources said we were seen
By observers it's a meeting
I received an education
I was dominant for hours
I won myself a wealth of weapons
Super massive wealth
Under a sweetheart contract
Which clearly stated, ?Strength is always health?
I had one upper hand
I was dominant for hours
I want to be there
On the far side of sin
I've been putting myself through hell
Waiting for hell to begin
I got insurance
I was dominant for hours
My Tour de France is to forget
All that's gone on around and about me
My manners are forever
And whatever sells the newspapers suits me
I got an education
I was dominant for hours
I had one upper hand
I was dominant for hours
I got insurance
I was dominant for hours
