Craftsman homes are defined primarily by their time period — the 1900s through the 1930s — and include everything from bungalows and Prairie-style houses to Arts and Crafts homes. For Craftsman-style homes, it’s all about the architectural details. Low, pitched gable and hipped roofs; tapered and squared entry columns; exposed rafter tails; custom built-ins; and oak woodwork all take center stage in a Craftsman house. Craftsman decor is more difficult to distinguish, though the furniture often includes wood pieces made with straight lines and vertical slats, in earthy color palettes.
