A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the territory, with damaging winds forecast over the next few hours.
The Bureau of Meteorology put out the warning about noon on Friday. Canberra, Goulburn and Nowra are expected to be affected as well as other parts of New South Wales.
ACT State Emergency Service advised people to take cover away from trees, secure loose items around properties and keep away from fallen power lines.
