SMH Live: 2016 Year in Review

In late November, Herald subscribers attended an exclusive SMH Live event to hear our award-winning journalists discuss the biggest stories of 2016.

Hosted by the Herald’s editor-in-chief, Darren Goodsir, and Good Weekend editor, Amelia Lester, the panel included Peter Hartcher (political and international editor), Ross Gittins (economics editor), Sean Nicholls (state political editor), Adele Ferguson (senior business writer), Peter FitzSimons (columnist), Andrew Meares (press photographer), Nick O’Malley (former U.S. correspondent) and Kate McClymont (investigative journalist).

In front of a record crowd of over 1400 subscribers, the panel shared their thoughts on the events that defined 2016; including the extraordinary U.S. Election campaign, Australia’s Federal Election, Mike Baird and greyhound racing, the unraveling of the ICAC, exposés such as the CommInsure scandal, and the Rio Games.

To wrap up the evening, the panel shared their thoughts on what 2017 may bring.

If you missed the event or want to relive the best moments, here are exclusive video recaps and photographs from the evening…
