Carrie Bickmore returning to radio
The Gold Logie winner is teaming up with comedian Tommy Little to co-host an new radio show on 2DayFM.
The show will be broadcast nationwide from 3pm to 4pm on 2Day FM in Sydney, Fox in Melbourne and the other capital city stations.
Tommy Little was previously on Nova, hosting breakfast show Meshel & Tommy with Meshel Laurie, before quitting in at the end of 2015.
It is unclear how Bickmore will juggle both her commitments on The Project and radio, with the Channel Ten news program airing weeknights at 6.30pm.
Bickmore, while best known for her work on television, started her career in radio in Perth in 1999. She was the afternoon newsreader for Nova 100 in Melbourne before becoming the co-host of her own drive show.
In 2007, before leaving to focus on The Project, Bickmore was also the breakfast newsreader for Hughesy & Kate.
"I'm so excited about returning to radio," Bickmore said on Friday morning. "I love that immediate interaction you get with listeners and the unpredictability that comes with it. I am really looking forward to having some fun talking about the things I'm passionate about and find amusing."
After jumping networks, Little said he was looking forward to hosting a show alongside his friend.
"I can't wait to return to radio with my mate Carrie. She is the best. She's caring, lovely and professional. l plan to be the opposite of those things. We're going to have a lot of fun together."
The new program will absorb an hour of the existing local afternoon programs which run from between around 12 and 4pm and will segue into drive show Hamish & Andy.
The announcement comes just weeks after Sam Frost and Rove McManus were booted from their 2Day FM Sydney breakfast slot, replaced with Em Rusciano and Harley Breen.
Melbourne drive kings Hamish Blake and Andy Lee will also leave a gaping hole in Southern Cross Austereo's Melbourne ratings stronghold when they leave to pursue television toward the end of 2017.
Hit Network's Head of Content Gemma Fordham said listeners would connect to Bickmore's "realness".
"She calls it as she sees it, but has enormous compassion and can connect with everyone from everyday Aussies out in the suburbs to Hollywood megastars.
"I think that's why the nation has taken her in to their hearts – people know they are getting the real deal with Carrie."
"Tommy is one of the best comedians out there; he owns the room with his stand-up comedy and media appearances and is one of the most exciting performers going around right now."
