Bourke Street mall incident: What we know so far

At least 20 people people have been injured and one person is dead after a car ploughed through pedestrians in a high-speed police chase in the middle of Melbourne's CBD. Here's what we know so far. 

What happened? 

At least one person is confirmed dead after a police pursuit in the city through the busy Bourke Street mall. Ambulance Victoria say they are treating 20 people for injuries, some serious. There are also reports of gunshots being fired. 

Where did it take place? 

Witnesses say they saw a car driving on the footpath on Bourke Street near Queens Street. Pedestrian access has been closed on Bourke Street between William and Swanston Streets. Office buildings on Bourke Street are in lockdown.

When was it?

The incident happened at about 2pm on Friday, not long after the busy lunchtime rush.
