hidden facebook settings

If you’re a Facebook user, chances are there are loads of great features that you aren’t even using yet.

1. Find your hidden messages

Facebook is kind enough to sort your messages into two groups – those from people you know and those that you don’t. But most people don’t know about this hidden folder, so you have to manually open it to read messages. Some of them might be spam, but others might be from people that you do know (in real life) but haven’t become friends with on Facebook yet. On your desktop computer, just click messages, then hit ‘Message Requests’ to find hidden messages.

2. Allow a friend to manage your account

If you’ve ever wondered what would happen to your account if you died – someone else can access it for you. Just let Facebook know who your trusted person is to keep on top of friend requests or update your profile photo. Hit the “Trusted Contacts” on the tab called “Security” to update it.

3. See what you “like”

You can look back in time on everything that you have ever clicked “like” on, commented on, and even posted. All you need to hit to do this is “View Activity Log" under the arrow in the far top right corner.

4. View your profile as an outsider

Have you ever wondered how people see your profile if you’re not yet friends? To do this just go onto your profile page and click the three dots next to “View Activity Log,” and choose “View As…”

5. Start a video chat

It’s easy to have a video call with friends on Facebook. Just open the chat box that you use to send messages. Then click on the icon of the camera on the blue strip at the top of the tab.

6. Tell Facebook what you want to read about

Do you feel like you miss some of your good friend’s posts and pics? You can let Facebook know whose feed you want to see more of. To set this up, open your friend’s profile page. Then in their main profile picture, click the box that says “Following” then go down to “See first” to set them up. You can also tell Facebook who your close friends are by clicking “Friends” and then the “Close friends” option. Now you won’t miss a thing.

7. Read something later on

There are loads of interesting articles, recipes and photos to check out on Facebook – but sometime you run out of time. You can save something to read later by clicking on the down arrow in the top right of the box the post is in, and choosing save. Then to view everything you have saved, go to the tab called “Saved” on the left hand side of your home page.
