Popcorn is a 1991 American comedy horror film directed by Mark Herrier and written by Alan Ormsby.
College film student and aspiring film writer Maggie Butler (Jill Schoelen) has been having recurring dreams of a young girl named Sarah who is caught in a fire and being chased by a strange man who is trying to kill her. She records what she remembers on an audio tape and plans on making the story into a film. Maggie lives with her mother Suzanne (Dee Wallace Stone), who has been receiving strange, demonic prank calls recently. On her way to class, a boy she has been seeing named Mark (Derek Rydall) embraces her and tries to get her go to his place. Maggie shuns his advances, explaining that she can't be distracted from writing her script.
The fledgling new film department at the university has had trouble gaining recognition, so classmate Toby D'Amato (Tom Villard) has an idea to put on an all-night Horror-thon to raise funds for the department to have a permanent editing space. They set up shop in the defunct Dreamland theater, an old live theater and cinema that is to be razed in three weeks. Professor Davis (Tony Roberts) is concerned about the time constraints, but Toby has enlisted the help of Dr. Mnesyne (Ray Walston), an owner of a film memorabilia shop who has the appropriate gimmicks for the films chosen for the festival. There are three main films within a film.Mosquito is a 3D film, The Attack of the Amazing Electrified Man was released with an accompanying "Shock-o-Scope" gimmick (electrical "buzzers" in seats), and The Stench is a Japanese film released in Odorama.

Visit http://popcorndoc.com for info about the upcoming Popcorn documentary and DVD release! Popcorn revolves around a group of film students planning an all-night horror film festival in order to raise funds for their cinema club. They decide to show a number of (fictional) horror films from the 1950s that rely on gimmicks such as 3-D, Aroma-rama, and electrical "buzzers" in seats. Unbeknownst to the group, a homicidal maniac is stalking the theater where the festival is being held. A filmmaker named Lanyard Gates, who murdered his family during a screening of his only film in the 1970s, supplies the decoy killer character, since young Maggie (Jill Schoelen) may or may not be his missing daughter. Popcorn was written by Alan Ormsby, scribe behind Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things...
My review of the fun underrated horror flick, Popcorn(1991) starring Jill Schoelen, Tony Roberts, Dee Wallace Stone, Tim Villard, Derek Rydall, Malcolm Danare, Elliot Hurst, Ivette Soler, Freddie Simpson, Kelly Jo Minter, and Ray Walston. Directed by Mark Herrier(and an uncredited Alan Ormsby)

I revisit 'Popcorn' a 1991 horror movie starring Jill Schoelen. http://www.HaphazardStuff.com This flick for some reason has stuck with me after first seeing it a long, long time ago and I got curious if it had the same effect on others who saw it when it first came out, does Popcorn have any hardcore fans and are younger film fans even aware of its existence? I guess those questions prompted me to do this quick review. (I tried to avoid possible spoilers for those who haven't seen it....which I suspect is a lot) Even More of my take on Popcorn: http://haphazard-stuff.blogspot.com/2011/11/popcorn-1991-quick-movie-review.html
