Vince Colosimo fined over drug charges

Appearing at the Melbourne Magistrates Court, the Underbelly actor admitted to possession of the drug ice following his arrest last September.

In a summary read out in court, police said Mr Colosimo's car was stopped on Barkly Street in Fitzroy North at 4.10am on September 26.

Police said they searched Mr Colosimo's car after observing him try to conceal something near his feet.

When asked to get out of the car, police said Mr Colosimo placed a green bag in the passenger side but was asked by officers not to touch it.

Mr Colosimo and his passenger appeared to be nervous during the pullover, police said.

Inside the green bag, police said they found a black sunglasses case which contained a small sealed bag of ice.

Mr Colosimo was arrested and taken to Richmond police station where he gave a statement which was read out in court.

In the statement, Mr Colosimo admitted that he was carrying the drugs.

Magistrate Brian Clifford chose not to convict Colosimo but placed him on a 12-month good behaviour bond and fined him $1000.

In late 2014, the actor's licence was suspended in the Melbourne Magistrates Court after he was caught twice driving with a suspended licence.

Despite starring in major films, including alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Body of Lies and Australian cult hit Chopper, the court heard Colosimo needed four months to pay a $1000 fine and was working on building sites to supplement his income.

Colosimo was nominated for a silver Logie for his portrayal of Melbourne gangland figure Alphonse Gangitano in Underbelly in 2008.

He also starred as Gangitano in Fat Tony & Co, a spin off from the Underbelly series about the manhunt for convicted drug boss Tony Mokbel.

He had been tipped to be part of the cast for Channel 10's I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

In 2013, legal firm Dandanis and Associates threatened to sue Colosimo after he failed to comply with a 2011 court order to pay a $36,000 debt. However, the matter was dropped before it reached the Federal Court.

He battled former partner Jane Hall in the Supreme Court in 2008 after their 11-year relationship ended and Colosimo sought a 90 per cent share of the sale of their $890,000 home in Northcote.
