Geelong fans who were due to travel to Sunday's clash with Adelaide will have their airfares and tickets refunded or credited.

As the football world came to terms with the death of Crows coach Phil Walsh on Friday, AFL boss Gillon McLachlan announced the cancellation of the Adelaide-Geelong match, which was scheduled at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon.

All other matches this round will proceed, with all observing a minute's silence in honour of Walsh, who was stabbed to death in the early hours of Friday morning.

Airlines will offer credits or refunds to fans who were due to travel to Adelaide for the clash with Geelong, which has been cancelled due to the death of Phil Walsh.

On Friday afternoon, Tiger, Virgin and Qantas all announced they would refund any flights purchased to the game.

"We are deeply saddened by the news of Phil Walsh's passing and our thoughts are with his family, the Adelaide Football Club and the AFL community," a Virgin Australia statement said.

All airlines will refund passengers' tickets as credit.

Virgin requires passengers to call their travel agent, or Virgin's guest contact centre to arrange the credit.

Tiger will require passengers to show a match ticket for the game to receive a refund, and passengers need to notify the airline at least four hours before they were due to fly.

Tickets to the game at the Adelaide Oval will be automatically refunded for credit card purchasers, while those who bought tickets with cash or EFTPOS can contact Ticketek in Adelaide to get their refund.

Virgin, the official airline of the AFL, was scheduled to fly Geelong's players to Adelaide before the Sunday match.

Gambling giant TAB confirmed it would be refunding all bets on the match. Multi-bets involving the match would go ahead as normal but the result from the cancelled match would be ignored, a spokesman said.
