'This is a special honor': Tom Hanks talks about his legacy in film as he accepts People's Choice Award

The 60-year-old accepted the People's Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic Actor in a Movie on Wednesday night in Los Angeles.

Taking the stage he said, with obvious emotion: 'You know you make movies and you wonder if people are going to care, if people are going to see them.'
'If it's going to matter to anybody,' Hanks admitted. 'This is a special honor.'
'I've been doing this for a long time. I love my job, and I leave little bits and pieces of my existence on the screen every time,' the Forrest Gump star said philosophically.

'I hope further down the line, [my films] will continue to mean something for folks who search them out,' Hanks concluded.
The celebrated actor has previously won two Academy Awards for Best Actor and has been nominated in that category five times.
He has also won eight previous People's Choice Awards.

The People's Choice Awards has been broadcast annually since 1975 on CBS.
The first People's Choice Awards on March 3, 1975 recognized The Sting as Favorite Picture of 1974 with Barbra Streisand named Favorite Film Actress and John Wayne as Favorite Film Actor.
The show's ratings peaked in 1977 when 35.3 million viewers tuned in to watch Farrah Fawcett win Favorite Female TV Star and Star Wars won Favorite Picture.
