MATT BARLOW: It was at White Hart Lane in the early days of the Premier League revolution when I was struck by my first bolt from football's future. Sheffield Wednesday were at Tottenham and the good folk of South Yorkshire had been plunged into a state of confusion having discovered there were pizza slices and hot dogs for sale but no pies. Imagine the shock. Twenty-five years on and I'm back at the same venue, this time in the swish Spurs offices inside Lilywhite House with massive goggles strapped to my head and the unfamiliar feel of a games console in my hand, preparing to tour a stadium yet to be built via the concept of 'augmented reality'.

Andy Murray vs Sam Querrey Australian Open LIVE

Andy Murray resumes his Australian Open campaign as the overwhelming favourite to lift the first major of the year after Novak Djokovic's shock exit. Murray takes on Sam Querry in the third round after rival Djokovic, a six-time winner here who has beaten the Scot in the final four times, was dumped out the competition by world No 117 Denis Istomin.  There are minor concerns about Murray's ankle, which he twisted during his second round win against Andrey Rublev. Follow the world No 1 in action LIVE with JACK BEZANTS and MIKE DICKSON in Melbourne.

CHRIS FOY - WORLD OF RUGBY: Dylan Hartley has evidently done enough to convince Eddie Jones that he is ready to lead England into the Six Nations after coming through a gruelling fitness test on Thursday.

Novak Djokovic on the slide... what's happened to him?

MIKE DICKSON IN MELBOURNE: There is one relatively straightforward explanation for the perplexing decline of Novak Djokovic and it doubtless holds water. Having reached his main career goal of being French Open champion last June, meaning he held all four Grand Slams at once, he suffered an existentialist crisis of motivation. What else was there left to achieve and to make all the sacrifices for? Yet there must be other factors involved, some probably connected to that. They have resulted in the outcome that saw his Melbourne Park citadel stormed by Denis Istomin, a journeyman from Uzbekistan with zany eyewear.

Idrissa Gueye says he 'would have killed' Sadio Mane

JONNY SINGER IN GABON: Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye hailed Senegal team-mate Sadio Mane, but joked he would 'kill' the Liverpool star for his lack of defensive contribution. Mane was instrumental as Senegal eased past Zimbabwe to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations as group winners. And while Gueye praised the attacking brilliance of Mane and Lazio winger Balde Keita, he was not as impresesed with their defending.

Gabriel Jesus lived on food parcels and had no bus fare

JANET TAPPIN COELHO IN SAO PAULO AND PETE JENSON: There is a sizeable tattoo on the inside of Gabriel Jesus's right forearm. It depicts a small boy with a football under his arm looking back at the favela where he grew up. Neymar has an almost identical one on the back of his calf. Jesus has already been dubbed the new Neymar, and even though he is still three months short of his 20th birthday, he has also been likened to Ronaldo - the Brazilian - by the man himself, no less. This feels like Manchester City getting ahead of the game.

Atletico Madrid 3-0 Eibar: Antoine Griezmann scores in cup

Goals from Antoine Griezmann, Angel Correa and Kevin Gameiro helped Atletico Madrid put one foot in the semi-finals of the Copa Del Rey as they eased to a 3-0 win over Eibar in a last-eight first leg match on Thursday. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan lunch out

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have only been in England for half a year, but it would appear the two Manchester United stars have already found one of their favourite dining spots. The pair, who were influential in helping United go on a nine-match winning streak before last Sunday's 1-1 draw with Liverpool, were spotted exiting Brazilian restaurant Ben Brasil on King Street West after a late lunch on Thursday. Swedish striker Ibrahimovic was wrapped up in a long black coat, grey beanie and chinos with a pair of black Adidas NMDs keeping his feet comfy on a stroll just off Deansgate in Manchester city centre.

Cristiano Ronaldo is watched by Georgina Rodriguez

There are a number of ways a guy can impress a girl. They can buy flowers, take her out for a meal, or simply even send a compliment their way. Their are plenty of options. Losing at home to Celta Vigo, however, is not one of them. So Cristiano Ronaldo may find he has some making up to do after he subjected his new girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez to a lousy performance from his Real Madrid team-mates on Wednesday night.

Sadio Mane's Senegal put in a superb performance to book their place in the last eight of the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday night. Great news for Senegal, but less satisfactory for Jurgen Klopp.

Sportsmail's estimates fees for Chelsea's 35 loanees

Chelsea made £6million off Patrick Bamford and it could rise to £10m with performance-related add-ons. After six separate loan spells at clubs since 2012, Chelsea finally cashed in, and Bamford will play for Middlesbrough in the Premier League. So how does Chelsea make all this work in their favour? And do they have any hidden gems that they can get a pretty penny for? From Juventus to non-League Solihull Moors, Chelsea have their fingers in plenty of pies. Here, Sportsmail takes a closer look at the London club's loan dealings.

Real Sociedad 0-1 Barcelona: Neymar seals slender victory

Barcelona took one step closer to getting their hands back on the Copa Del Rey trophy after a slender 1-0 victory away to Real Sociedad gave them the advantage in the quarter-finals of the competition. Luis Enrique's men ground out the hard-fought contest to take the spoils and set up a mouth-watering return leg at the Nou Camp. Brazilian superstar Neymar was the difference between the two sides, slotting home a penalty on the 20-minute mark after having his legs taken from beneath him in the area by Sociedad's Elustondo.

Tony Pulis gives me attacking freedom, says Matt Phillips

INTERVIEW BY LAURIE WHITWELL: For a player producing some of the best attacking statistics in Europe, it is curious to hear Matt Phillips confess to grapples with low confidence. He does not seem short on self-belief when shifting his powerful frame down the wing at speed to deliver crosses or try shots, as he has done for West Bromwich Albion numerous times this season. He admits though that underneath resides a psychological tussle which has punctuated his career. He knows he possesses talent but, having risen from League Two to Premier League, has been uncertain of the level. Internal pressure to do well has followed and that, he says, would lead to his 'downfall'.

Liverpool's star playmaker is likely to join Barcelona due to his friendship with Neymar and because the Nou Camp 'is always going to attract the best,' according to Rivaldo.

Arsene Wenger admits he is a fan of Dimitri Payet, but says he does not need to buy another attacking midfielder. The West Ham star is refusing to play for the club as he pushes for a move to Marseille.

Green glasses and coached by mum, meet Denis Istomin

Denis Istomin, 30, is coached by his mother. Klaudiya Istomina introduced her son to the game and has nurtured him ever since.  Doctors feared that Istomin would never play tennis again after he suffered severe injuries to his legs in a car crash in 2001. He resumed training two years later and turned pro in 2004. The Uzbek is one of only two players on the ATP tour to wear prescription glasses, along with Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic. On Thursday, Istomin sported a fluorescent green Oakley pair which cost a cool £299.99. Novak Djokovic prefers contact lenses.

Conor McGregor stopped by police in McLaren sports car

Conor McGregor was stopped by Irish police in his orange McLaren on Wednesday night in Dublin, with pictures emerging of him being spoken to by an officer from Gardai. McGregor was out with a friend in his McLaren 650S sports car - worth £198,000 - when he was pulled over by Irish police on Aungier Street and spoken to at around 10pm. The UFC Lightweight champion was driving the sports car and appeared happy to cooperate with the official during the exchange, and there is no indication of any wrongdoing.

Marten de Roon visits young Middlesbrough fan

It is every young footballer's dream to meet their heroes and for one Middlesbrough fan that came true in a very special way this week. When Henry Baines, a young Boro supporter, wrote to midfielder Marten de Roon as part of his school literacy project, he couldn't have imagined the response he would get. De Roon was that touched by Henry's letter to him, which described the player as his 'idol', he decided to turn up unannounced at his house.

The day I played with Rivaldo... but didn't even know it

JAMES DUTTON IN BARCELONA: The first thing you notice when you arrive at Barcelona's famed Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training complex is the sheer size and scale of the operation. Pitches upon pitches, state-of-the-art facilities and a view that takes in the rolling mountains of Spain's north east. What I failed to notice was the former world player of the year standing in our midst. In my defence he was wearing a false nose, beard and a wig. But more of that later...

Carlos Tevez's first taste of the Chinese Super League revolution was to be met by thousands of fans after the world's best-paid player arrived in Shanghai on Thursday morning. 5 POINTS: Dimitri Payet staying or going, Diego Costa coming back plus Graham Taylor, Paul Merson and potential punishments for Man City. You had plenty to say on all of them...

In September 2013, Robbie Simpson went to the gym, took the dog for a walk and waited for his phone to ring. It did not. The next day he repeated the same routine, and the day after that.

Real Madrid 1-2 Celta Vigo: Report

Zinedine Zidane's side have come crashing back down to earth following their historic unbeaten run as Celta Vigo served up a second defeat in a week for Real Madrid. Hull defender Moses Odubajo on his freak injuries

The defender was gearing up for Hull's return to the Premier League when he went into a challenge and emerged with serious knee ligament damage just two minutes into a pre-season game with Grimsby. It was a cruel blow which would keep Odubajo on the sidelines for around three months. Unfortunately, worse was to follow.

Fitness fanatic Helen was pushing her luck, however, when she walked off the 18th green, put down the 30lb golf bag, and asked Westwood if they were now off to the gym. 'Did you say gin?' replied Westwood, chuckling.
