'I'm sorry, love': New trailer for Paul Hogan TV biopic focuses on ex-wife Noelene and Crocodile Dundee star's relationship with Linda Kozlowski

He's the iconic Australian actor who said in December that his life wouldn't work as a biopic as it was 'lacking drama.'

But a new trailer for Channel 7's Hoges has focused squarely on 77-year-old Paul Hogan's long relationship with ex-wife Noelene and the impact on his family of his relationship with Crocodile Dundee co-star Linda Kozlowski.

'I'm sorry, love' the comedian tells a tearful Noelene in a crucial scene from the biopic, which other critics have suggested has been miscast.

The minute-long promotional trailer tracks the Lightning Ridge-born star throughout the various stages of his personal and professional life.

The blonde larrikin is played by Josh Lawson, who gushed about the part when filming commenced in May last year.

'Paul Hogan has always been one of my heroes, so this role is as exciting as it is challenging,' he said in a statement.

'Everyone loves Hoges and one of his great gifts was making audiences feel like we really knew him,' he continued.

The veteran actor is initially portrayed as a 'working dad with big dreams' whose raw comedic talent allowed him to leave his job as a rigger and become a popular television personality.

His breakthrough as the writer and star of the 1986 box office hit Crocodile Dundee is presented as a turning point for both his career and his love life.

In one scene from the Hoges trailer, Noelene Hogan, his wife of 30 years at the time, toasts to his success and remarks, 'Look out Hollywood, here come the Hogans!'

Their ensuing divorce after Paul left his wife for his co-star Linda Kozlowski, who he married less than one year later, is emotionally depicted in the movie.

Noelene said she is concerned with how she will be portrayed in the mini-series in an interview with Woman's Day last year.  

'Nobody’s talked to me,' she revealed. 'Nobody’s told me about it.'

The Oscar nominee downplayed his fame when he accepted the prestigious Longford Lyell Award at the AACTA Awards in 2016, in recognition of his contribution to the screen industry.

'I'm a huge one-hit wonder,' he joked with reporters at the press announcement. 

'Crocodile Dundee started out as a sketch - it was going to be Hoges in New York and it just sort of grew from there, a fluke,' he explained.
