EXCLUSIVE: Ivanka's first step in Making America Great Again: Assembling the furniture. Thrifty First Daughter furnishes $5.5 million Washington home at IKEA - but who put the anti-Trump march poster outside?
- Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner are moving to a detached home in upscale Kalorama where they will be neighbors to the Obama
- Movers arrived Wednesday with furniture for the family - including a series of purchases from IKEA
- Self-assembly items include a $179 Malm single bed and other boxes from the Swedish store
- Ivanka took her two older children to school in New York but will be in the capital by Friday for her father's inauguration
Ivanka Trump began preparations for her new life as the nation's first daughter today by moving her possessions, along with her preferred Ikea range, to Washington.
The eldest daughter of President-elect Donald Trump assigned truck after truck to remove the furniture and personal items from her New York home to the $5.5 million detached house, around two miles from the White House where her father will take up residence on Friday.
The delivery men also let slip that, like millions of other Americans, she has a simple taste when it comes to furniture as there were a few dozen cardboard boxes from Ikea.
The removal workers made no attempt to conceal Ivanka's purchases from the outside world and one item was revealed to be a single Ikea 'Malm' bed.
Everyday Americans: The Kushners' new house is being partly furnished from Ikea, just like millions of American homes. A mover was carrying in part of a $179 self-assembly bed
Self-assembly starts here: The Malm single bed which was carried in is (right) a popular IKEA item
Detatched splendor: The $5.5 million six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home Ivanka Trump, her husband and children will move into, is in the exclusive enclave of Kalorama
Not entirely welcome: A poster for a protest against Ivanka's father has been taped to a post directly outside the house
Ikea advertises the Malm bed frame for $179.00 on its website.
There were also dozens of other Ikea items which have become the staple purchase for many of the less wealthy moving into a new home.
Other large white boxes had 'fragile – dish pack' labelled on them.
The Trump family have also splashed out on a range of furniture from Restoration Hardware which has outlets across the US to decorate their new 6,870 square feet house.
Security engineers were also in attendance to install new surveillance cameras and check the existing anti-intruder alarm system.
Ivanka, 35, her husband Jared Kushner who is advising the president-elect, and their three children are set to take up residence permanently in the six-bedroom house within the next few days.
When they do they will find that the campaign against the new President has literally reached their doorstep as a poster promoting an anti-Trump march in Washington has been fastened to a streetlight on the sidewalk directly outside.
Security upgrade: The Kushners are increasing security at the home they will move into in Washington D.C.
Security work: A private security firm is installing new features at the home where Ivanka will live with her family.
Also shopped at: The family are also having items from Restoration Hardware, the upscale furniture chain, moved in
Purchases: The family appear to have been shopping at a variety of popular outlets and had staff on hand to move in
Big task: A series of items of furniture were being delivered to the D.C. home. It is unclear when the First Daughter and her family will move in
Ready-assembled: Not all the furniture being delivered to Ivanka Trump's new home was self-assembly
Tight squeeze: The 15 steps up to the detached home proved a challenge for the movers
Moving on up: Movers had to wrestle with the large items of furniture being delivered to the Kalorama home
Under the carpet: Among the items being delivered were a floor covering
Plenty to furnish: The Kalorama home has six bedrooms and 6,870 square feet to fill. The family of five are leaving a four-bedroom condo in New York
Careful: A large item of furniture posed a particular challenge for the team of movers
DailyMail.com was on hand to witness deliverymen struggle to gain access to the property with two large couches which they had to swivel and turn several times before managing to carry them through the front door after negotiating 15 steps.
Four trucks and two security equipment installation vehicles were positioned outside the house, which has seven bathrooms, for much of the morning.
Ivanka's staff were on hand to help with the move and one of the first things to help make it look like a lived in home were several of the children's toys being placed on a bedroom window sill which were visible from the street.
The couple have three children; Arabella Rose, 5, Joseph Frederick, 3, and nine-month-old Theodore James.
Their new home is in a highly exclusive area where former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld once lived and several diplomats live in gated mansions.
The streets are crammed with cars carrying diplomatic license plates and parking restrictions are in force.
Ivanka and her family were living in a four-bedroom condo in Manhattan while she was at the helm of her father's businesses with her siblings.
Doting mom: The 35-year-old held three-year-old Joseph's hand while five-year-old Arabella walked closely behind them as they left their New York home.

'Packing buddy': The mom posted a photo of Arabella surrounded by boxes in their apartment - some of which may have been photographed arriving in Kalorama on Wednesday
Outgoing president Obama has also bought a large detached home around the corner which was also the subject for removal men and secret service officials.
The Islamic Center of Washington DC is also a few minutes away and on the corner of the streets where Ivanka and the Obamas will reside.
With her father's new role and her installation as a quashi-first lady while his wife Melania spends time staying in New York, Ivanka has become one of America's most influential women.
But she is not the first powerful woman to move into neighborhood.
An antique red street lamp outside her new home points out that presidential wives Eleanor Roosevelt, Lou Henry Hoover and Edith Galt Wilson also lived there.
Shirley Temple Black and supreme court justice Sandra Day O'Connor and pro China political campaigner Chiang Kai-Shek were also residents.
