The updated Toyota Kluger is set to arrive in Australia from February, bringing it with it revised styling, additional standard features and improvements to engine power and fuel efficiency.
As before the Kluger will be available in three model grades, GX, GXL and Grande available with either front- or all-wheel drive. Changes for the 2017 model include direct injection for the 3.5 litre petrol V6 and a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
The update sees power bumped to 218kW and 350Nm from the previous Kluger’s 201kW and 337Nm, while the more efficient eight-speed automatic sees official fuel consumption figures drop as low as 9.1L/100km for the two-wheel drive GX up to 9.5L/100km for the all-wheel drive Grande, down from 10.2L/100km and 10.6L/100km respectively.
Inside Toyota promises enhanced interior quality thanks to premium materials and metallic touches. The top-spec Grande gets blue LED ambient lighting.
Kluger GXL adds a new 8.0-inch touchscreen audio system with navigation, DAB+ digital radio and a power tailgate that includes an independently-opening glass hatch.
All Kluger variants are fitted with seven airbags, reverse parking sensors, rear view camera, electronic traction and stability control and ABS brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution.
Kluger Grande also adds rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning with steering assistance and sway warning - a system to detect driver fatigue and inattention.
Outside the Kluger has been dressed up with a new grille design, silver on GX and GXL and chrome on Grande, with new alloy wheel designs for the 18-inch (GX and GXL) and 19-inch (Grande) wheels.
Pricing will be revealed closer to the new model’s launch next month.
