Alpine Teases All-Aluminium Architecture For A120 Coupe

Blink and you’ll miss it but Renault's relaunched Alpine sports car division has taken to Twitter to showcase the aluminium body and chassis architecture of its upcoming all-new A120 Coupe which will debut in production form at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

In further good news for European customers, the Alpine app now facilitates orders for the Premiere Edition, a limited run of 1,955 vehicles.

Renault’s specialist sports car brand is certainly getting plenty of air time in the countdown to launch but is being tight on releasing specifics on the vehicle which is seen as its comeback to the ‘Major Leagues’.

Word on the street initially claimed power would come from a mid-mounted turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine (derived from the 1.6-litre unit fitted to the Clio RS) but latest indications point to the 225kW 2.0-litre engine from the upcoming Megane RS.

Alpine has only suggested the A120 will deliver zero to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds.

Right-hand-drive production may not commence until 2018.

While European pricing has the Alpine A120 locking horns with the Porsche Cayman, Renault Australia has revealed a starting price below $100,000 (possibly even $75,000) which seems to indicate Porsche Australia’s Cayman starting price of $110,000 might be a tad generous.
