Memphis Depay's time at Manchester United was a disappointment... but where does he rank among their top 10 transfer flops?

Memphis Depay's Manchester United career is coming close to an end after Lyon agreed a £21.6million deal with the Premier League side on Wednesday.

The Holland international has failed to make the grade at Old Trafford since his £25m from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015.

But where does Depay rank among the Red Devils' worst-ever signings? Sportsmail provides their own top 10...

10) Zoran Tosic

Joined: January 2009; Fee: £7million; Appearances: 5; Goals: 0

Joining in January 2009, the Serbian winger was seen as the successor to Ryan Giggs down United's left flank after catching the eye at Partizan Belgrade. He arrived as an exciting talent having scored 18 goals in 61 games but only made five appearances for the Red Devils, totalling 79 minutes, as he struggled to adapt to English football.

He joined CSKA Moscow for an undisclosed fee in June 2010 where he is still playing to this day.

9) Juan Sebastian Veron

Joined: July 2001; Fee: £28.1m; Appearances: 82; Goals: 11

The Argentine playmaker arrived at Old Trafford with the expectation of taking them to the next level, especially in Europe. Sir Alex Ferguson said Veron 'was a world-class footballer' who would bring 'a personality to the team' and while he demonstrated that at times in Europe, the faster pace of the Premier League meant that he was afforded little time domestically. Then English football's most expensive player, he eventually moved to Chelsea for £15m after an indifferent two years in Manchester.

He has recently come out of retirement, too, to play for boyhood club Estudiantes at the age of 41.

8) Wilfried Zaha

Joined: January 2013; Fee: £15m Appearances: 4; Goals: 0

Ferguson's parting gift to his successor David Moyes, the Scot never truly unwrapped Zaha's talent. He impressed during their Community Shield win over Wigan but that proved to be just one of just four appearances under the now Sunderland boss. Moyes' opinion on Zaha was echoed by Louis van Gaal who allowed him to return to Crystal Palace on loan before the deal became a permanent one for an undisclosed fee.

He is currently with the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations.

7) Kleberson

Joined: August 2003; Fee: £6.5m; Appearances: 30; Goals: 2

Unveiled as a Manchester United player on the same day as Cristiano Ronaldo, that's where the similarities stop. The 2002 Brazilian World Cup winner was signed to replace Veron but proved an equally poor signing. He dislocated his shoulder in his second start for the club at Southampton, an incident that summed up an underwhelming two years in England.

He was last seen plying his trade with North American Soccer League side Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

6) Massimo Taibi

Joined: August 1999; Fee: £4.5m; Appearances: 4, Clean Sheets: 0; Goals Conceded: 11

Manchester United's goalkeeping calamity after legend Peter Schmeichel's departure can be summed up by the signing of Massimo Taibi and that nutmeg. The Italian conceded 11 goals in four appearances for the Treble-winners, including that memorable strike from Matt Le Tissier which bobbled through his legs at Old Trafford. His final appearance for the Red Devils saw him concede five goals in a harrowing defeat at Chelsea.

Joined Regina on loan in January 2000, a move that became permanent that summer.

5) Angel di Maria

Joined: August 2014; Fee: £59.7m Appearances: 32; Goals: 4

If it was for the fee alone, Di Maria would be top of the list. Signed for a then-British record £59.7m from Real Madrid, the winger was heralded as a player who could propel United back towards the summit of the Premier League. As it proved he lasted only one season. After making a bright start to life at Old Trafford, the Argentine struggled after an attempted burglary at his family home in Manchester before falling out with manager Van Gaal and offloaded to Paris-Saint Germain for £44.3m in the summer of 2015.

Speaking to L'Equipe last year about his time in England, Di Maria said: 'Manchester was a sad experience. Things did not go the way I expected, I was disappointed and I could not surface.

'Honestly, I don't remember what happened and I don't want to remember.'

4) Memphis Depay

Joined: May 2015; Fee: £25m Appearances: 53; Goals: 7

Bought by Van Gaal, Depay was billed as the next Ronaldo. A fast and skillful winger he took the No 7 shirt vacated by Di Maria's departure to PSG. Given a run in the team upon his arrival, he showed a glimpse of his talent in their 3-1 Champions League qualifier over Club Bruges - scoring twice and providing the assist for Marouane Fellaini's goal. However, that was about as good as it got for Depay whose attitude and lifestyle was questioned among senior players. Under Jose Mourinho, he only featured four times this season with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Will look to kick-start his career at Lyon and could return to United in future, with the club having inserted a buy-back clause in the deal.

3) Radamel Falcao

Joined: September 2014; Fee: £16m (total loan deal) Appearances: 29; Goals: 4

The Colombia international needed no introduction after excelling at Atletico Madrid and then Monaco. However, a serious knee injury had diminished his powers at the latter but the gamble of loan move by United appeared to shrewd business on deadline day. In reality it wasn't as he scored just four goals in 29 appearances in a deal that cost the club an eye-watering £16m with £6m going to Monaco and the rest made up of his £265,000-a-week wage.

Back to form this season, the 30-year-old has scored 12 goals in 14 league apperances for Ligue 1 leaders Monaco.

2) Eric Djemba-Djemba

Joined: £3.5m; Fee: July 2003 Appearances: 39; Goals: 2

Seen as Roy Keane's long-term replacement, United fans were purring about the Cameroon midfielder's arrival as they declared: 'He's so good they named him twice.' In truth once would've just sufficed as he failed in 18 months under Ferguson.

1) Bebe

Joined: £7.4m; Fee: August 2010; Appearances: 7; Goals: 1

Where do you start with this transfer? Never watched by Ferguson, yet signed hastily upon recommendation of his former assistant Carlos Queiroz, the previously homeless Portuguese winger was an unknown in his country before United paid £7.4m to sign him from Vitoria de Guimaraes, a club he had only joined five weeks beforehand. Made seven appearances for the Old Trafford outfit in a signing that is mocked by all United's opponents to this day.

Now plying his trade with Eibar in La Liga.
