After Google confirmed that the much awaited Android Wear 2.0 is being launched next month, it looks like we have a date now. The wearable platform upgrade is going to be officially launched on 9 February with two new smartwatches from LG.
Android Wear is a version of Google's Android operating system designed especially for smartwatches and other wearable devices.
Reporter Evan Blass tweeted the information on the Android Wear 2.0 launch, along with the information on the new watches being produced by Google and LG in partnership.

Blass confirmed that the renders, i.e. computer generated images of the watches, leaked by the Android Police last year are similar to how the actual watches are going to look.
The smartwatches are being christened LG Sports and LG Style respectively, and they will have plastic OLED displays which is a signature for LG watches.
Both watches will have waterproofing ratings of IP68 and IP67 respectively as reported by Venture Beat, and an Apple Watch like digital crown on their sides.
The Sports is the higher end model with a 1.38-inch screen, a 430 mAh battery, and 768 MB RAM capacity. It will also have LTE capabilities to make calls, a heart-rate sensor, as well as GPS and NFC chips.
The Style variant has a smaller 1.2-inch display, a 240 mAh battery, and is supported by 512 MB RAM capacity. It is likely to be targeted towards first-time users with attractive pricing. Both variants have a 4 GB internal storage capacity.
Both watches will also have Google Assistant integration, and it'd be worth watching whether the on-watch app store helps Android Wear 2.0 devices gain any advantage over the Apple Watch.
