Is there a doc out that talks about the detailed lives of the very rich in the world? People so rich that they don't work at all. Top 0.01%, super yachts, that kind of thing. I am trying to get a better picture of what they do on a day-to-day basis, what their children, marriages, relationships, are like. thanks!

[–]naimina 6 points7 points  (5 children)

I am looking for Crime documentaries with focus on the courtroom process. The more "passive" documentary team, the better.

The one that is my dearest favourite is: "The Staircase Murders".

I have also seen the Paradise Lost movies, the "Murder on a Sunday Morning" and some others I can't remember the names of.

Thank you very much.

[–]wordplayar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have named the best that i can think of, however try: the Central park five (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzxfsq_the-central-park-five-1_news)

after innocence (2005) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUQZ47FVU9o) which chronicals people wrongfully convicted and then released after DNA evidence proves they didn't do it.

'Gideons army' (i can't see a stream for it) looks at american public defenders.

[–]Cwolfe25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dear Zachary isn't a lot of courtroom action, but it's definitely by far my favorite crime documentary. They do a fantastic job explaining everything that actually went wrong in the courtroom, and the general complete failure of the justice system in this case. The follow up is great too.

[–]ssider 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Hey.. hoping someone can help me find a documentary (and its follow up). It features an uncontacted tribe in the Amazon and was shot in the 80's (I think), and a follow up was shot in the 00's. Anyone know the name? I think I initially saw it on the BBC?

Thanks!

[–]americandrifter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few scenes from the 80s film are shown by Werner Herzog in his short doc Ten Thousand Years Older. Found here: http://youtu.be/6PqFuFDXdTs

Maybe that will help a bit.

[–]mike_sean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's First Contact (1982). The tribe is in New Guinea, though, and not the Amazon (watch it on Vimeo). There was a follow-up doc a decade later, Black Harvest (1992).

A young David Attenborough also traveled there for A Blank on the Map (1971). BBC Four sent Mark Anstice back in 2007, and I believe that was also called "First Contact."

[–]wordplayar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"secrets of the tribe" - focuses on the explotation of the yanomami tribe by anthropologists even if its not the one you were looking for its a good doc. http://watchdocumentary.org/watch/secrets-of-the-tribe-video_105c9f13a.html

[–]jonalisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could it be The Tribe That Hides From Man? This is actually from the 70's but it won a BAFTA. Or Isolated: The Zo'é Tribe c.2000

I'm looking for documentaries on food history. Food, cooking and food technology. Really interested in history of kitchen goods like cooks/chefs knives which I have really struggled with finding any information, as well as pots, pans, stoves etc.

Also any decent docos on tea and coffee.

[–]palrefre 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I'm looking for a documentary (I think it was maybe an hour long or maybe just half) that was similar in look as 'Into the Wilderness' but it was just about building a log cabin.

From what I can remember it had no narration, it was just filming with some music. The builders may've been amish or Russian or something, I dunno. They were wearing flat caps. Any help would be great!

[–]wordplayar 5 points6 points  (1 child)

it sounds like this (which does have the into the wilderness look to it), but it has narration in finnish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3J5wkJFJzE

[–]funwithnopantson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THAT'S THE ONE!!! Thanks!

[–]planetes42 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Is there a documentary about ticket scalpers? Every time I purchase a ticket from one, I find myself intrigued by the economics of their business. I can't imagine it being wildly profitable, but at the same time the scalpers are omnipresent so there must be some money in it. Also, it would be helpful to get some insight into how the dynamics change as it gets closer to gametime and how proximity to the stadium affects negotiating/etc.

This is my first time coming across this subreddit, so I hope this is an appropriate place to post this question.

[–]wordplayar 3 points4 points  (1 child)

a short doc on scalpers in canada. http://vimeo.com/81469201

[–]planetes42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, ok. Thank you.

[–]Smartiie 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Thank you. I'll watch at least one of them tonight.

[–]wordplayar 2 points3 points  (4 children)

What have you seen and liked so we have an idea? Court drama, drugs, graffiti, murder, gang stuff?

[–]Smartiie 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I'm especially intrested in murdercases. I watched a lot of prison and gang stuff already and I'm more into the foresnsics and murder inverstigations.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (7 children)

What are some good war documentaries with first hand accounts from the war? I've been scouring for some good ones for a while but only found a couple. Any help is much appreciated.

[–]wordplayar 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Armadillo {2010} (http://cosmos-documentaries.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/armadillo-documentary-film-online.html) following danish soldiers in afghanistan

Restrepo {2010} (http://cosmos-documentaries.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/restrepo-documentary-film.html) which follows american troops in afghanistan.

are these the sort of thing you are after?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Already seen both :( But yes that's the kind of documentary I'm looking for

[–]wordplayar 2 points3 points  (2 children)

the series commando: on the front line follows british marines through training and into war in afghanistan, the whole series is quite good, but i think the last few episodes follow newly trained guys in battle. eg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuVPhu-Z-AA)

there is also occupation dreamland (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh7ietY5Jus) about americans soldiers in iraq

[–]Triumphant_Victor 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I am planning to do an essay on the importance of science funding to further scientific education and research. Things like funding NASA, research facilities, private companies' research endeavors, and science education in order to help improve our society. I need to have a documentary included as a source.

I know its kind of a lot to ask for, but any help is appreciated.

[–]badwhiskey63 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I posted this on Urban Planning:

I'm looking for a good documentary to give an overview of architecture for the intro to urban and regional planning class I teach. Mostly what I find are ones that cover one specific style or architect. About the best I've found is 10 Buildings that Changed America I like that it is US based, because so is the class. Later in the year I show Urbanized which is excellent. Any other suggestions for an Architecture documentary? Hopefully something between 60 and 90 minutes.

[–]anothernameagainn 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Robert Hughes - Visions of Space Three part series, Guadi, Speers and Miles Van do Rohe.

[–]badwhiskey63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I'll check that out.

[–]nekogaijin 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I am looking for a good documentary on the origins of Chinese Writing. Searches have pulled up several videos on How to Write, but I haven't found any detailing the history of the written language.

Thank you.

[–]nekogaijin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found this -History of Chinese Characters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIGXOdVwjb0 Not as deep as I wanted, but it's something.

[–]GimpyDota 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Hi. Any documentaries about Nursing (Profession) and its progression? I would also like to see any documentaries for Doctors pursuing Medicine. Thanks!

[–]wordplayar 4 points5 points  (1 child)

here are two about doctors going through med school/ intership

doctors diaries (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISvhswqxTSM) follows med students at harvard and then follows up with them 21 years later ("In 1987, NOVA's cameras began rolling to chronicle the lives of seven young, bright medical students embarking on the longest and most rigorous endeavor in higher education: the years-long journey to become a doctor. From their first days at Harvard Medical School to the present day, none of them could have predicted what it would take, personally and professionally. In "Doctors' Diaries," a two-hour special, NOVA returns to find out what sorts of doctors—and people—the seven young students have become. The program is the latest installment in the longest-running U.S. documentary of its kind.")

Junior doctors - (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJXu2k4OZzE) follows a bunch of med students in the UK as they are in placement/residency in their final years.

[–]GimpyDota 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

[–]SpunkinDunkin 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Hi, I was wondering if anybody knew where I could find a boxing documentary called "assault in the ring"? I have tried to find it in stores here in Ireland but I have had no luck.

[–]wordplayar 2 points3 points  (3 children)

i think it was formerly called cornered and i think this is it http://vimeo.com/77671392 if not its about the same fight/guys i think. sounds interesting and i'm about to watch it now. ( i don't know why but that vid is just test pattern for the 1st min and a half or so)

[–]SpunkinDunkin 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Thank you very much, this is a different documentary than the hbo version but it looks very good though so thanks for the link.

[–]wordplayar 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yeah you are right, I just started watching it, its not the same doc. Hope you can find the one you are after. Post it up if you do.

[–]SpunkinDunkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will, thanks again.

[–]peoplespeakthroughme 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I'm wondering if there is any documentaries on the Red Scare? Any docs on McCarthyism? Or any subject on communism in america and Americas reaction to it.

[–]sendaboat 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–]peoplespeakthroughme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great documentary, thanks for the advice.

[–]Noble06 2 points3 points  (5 children)

After watching "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" I find myself wanting to learn more about Japan. Any suggestions?

[–]wordplayar 4 points5 points  (2 children)

the great happiness space (2006) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-eogVXEQBE) is a strange look into host club culture.

young yakuza is also a good look at that subculture (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g_wTHWPrx8).

an amazing documentary to watch is 'the emporor's naked army marches on

[–]Noble06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks I will check those out.

[–]umegastar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow "the great happiness space" is very very good.

Interesting all the time, with lots of great footage, no commentary by the directors, all first hand thoughts by the protagonists, and the unveiling of the story and the surprising twists are brilliant.

One of my instant favorites, thanks for sharing.

[–]rosecoconut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geisha Girl (2005) focuses on an 15 year old geisha in training. It documents her training and also the life of a geisha and how the industry has changed.

Vice has done some great short docs (all <30mins) on Japan my favourites being Suicide Forest in Japan (2012) - about Aokigahara Forest - the most popular site for suicides in Japan, The Japanese Love Industry (2013) and Boyfriends for Hire in Japan (2013) - the infamous host bars in japan where good looking males entertain females.

[–]alibabaXXIV 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Looking for docs about everyday life in various countries.

[–]emerty 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Latest science breakthroughs please. Any field.

[–]jmose86 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Particle Fever, about the CERN particle accelerator. I wouldn't necessarily describe it as a "science breakthrough" doc, however it focuses on the opening and early progress of CERN and looks at what they are trying to achieve going forward.

Also worth checking out the episode list for BBC Horizon. They do a lot of stuff looking at new scientific studies and advancements. Over 1000 episodes in 50 years, so I guess just click the most recent series and then work your way backwards looking for stuff of interest :)

[–]emerty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I've seen particle fever. Very good. Exactly what I was looking for.

[–]wordplayar 2 points3 points  (2 children)

here is a doco about grisha perelman, a mathematician who solved on of the millenium prizes (a breakthough in maths) and has since rejected the fields medal and the million dollar millenium prize money and potentially quit mathematics. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng1W2KUHI2s)

[–]emerty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Much appreciated.

[–]emerty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good. Interesting, puzzling and curious.

[–]kittysub 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I'm looking for a specific documentary I watched a few years back. I don't remember a whole lot about it, so sorry if this isn't much to go on.

It was about some high school or college where the students didn't really learn. I believe the school was founded in the 60's by a hippie. A lot of the students there had been raised as "Indigo Children."

If anyone thinks they know the name of the school, or a few docs that might be similar, that could help me continue my search.

Thanks!

[–]chocolate_nutty_cone 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Looking for docs that focus on the late 60s/early 70s punk movement in the UK.

[–]LordTyran 7 points8 points  (5 children)

I'll try it here. Is there a documentary/series of the Holy roman empire?? like a rise and fall kind of thing...??? any help would be appreciated.

[–]emerty 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Here you go. BBC 6 parter, supposed to be good. on my watchlist

http://youtu.be/0mUQVm9FU64?list=PLb54e0SzOuitX0RTv_3XFzQxzwjinvkQ2

[–]Tartantyco 4 points5 points  (3 children)

That documentary is about the Roman Empire, not The Holy Roman Empire, i.e. Germany.

[–]DaveTheQuaver 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'm looking for a documentary series, it follows a police force in canada (i think) and do wilderness policing, they enforce like hunting permits, check traps and stuff like that. I remember watching some of it last year but cannot for the life of me remember the name. Many thanks

[–]WooTs_67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like Alaska State Troopers

[–]Boomshakalaka89 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I know this may sound out of the ordinary, but I have been very interested in race issues for a few years and with all of the issues going on throughout the world, I would like to see some documentaries having to do with race. I have seen multiple Vice docs having to do with this topic, and a few on Neo-Nazi's in America, but I want to learn about the feelings of race issues from other races as well.

I am also interested in the so called "hooligans" in the European football scene as well as conflicts in Ireland, whether it be between both parts of Ireland, or internally in one part. IRA stuff if possible. I hope everyone finds what they are looking for!!

[–]wordplayar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm not really sure if this fits the bill of what you are after. Its a series called race relations, that lightheartedly deals with race issues/ dating other cultures, its comedic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNw4H2k1wyw&list=PL8FA178E296EC7297

[–]mazen316 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I am finding a hard time organizing my documentary library on my computer, i am currently sorting the files by subject - Art, Economics, Entertainment, Health, History, Music, Nature, Politics, Science and Technology, Sports, Travel, and finally War. But lately, its getting harder to sort some documentaries with overlapping subjects, so i wanted to ask if anyone has a better sorting arrangement that could help me out with?

[–]BlameItOnMyADHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe categorize by country, region or time period

another way is categorizing by source - for ex. bbc, pbs, history channel, indie, etc.

[–]sendaboat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try using sub-categories in your categories. For example--in Entertainment (music, movies, television), or Nature (animals, weather, volcanoes), etc.

[–]DisconcertedLiberal 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Does anybody know of any good docs about Middle Eastern culture?

[–]jmose86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much that I've watched myself, sorry. Parts Unknown has a great recent episode on Iran, Ostensibly about food, but talks about culture a good amount.

[–]jmose86 2 points3 points  (6 children)

You find it yet? It's available on MTV website, but are you asking for mirror because that doesn't work for you?

[–]Syphiliticc 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Hi, new round here but hoping someone can point me in a good direction.

I love documentaries about planes, particularly missing ones whether it's MH370 or the Bermuda Triangle or whatever. Could someone maybe suggest some documentaries that might take my fancy?

[–]Hippolite_Terentyev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you'll be able to view this, but this is a Nova documentary on why planes vanish.

http://video.pbs.org/video/2365334815/

Youtube version

[–]wildpigeonchase 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Here's a short (20 min) one on MH370. More a news report/investigation than documentary though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMl88L1y-Jg

You might also be interested in this one, though it covers more about why and how planes crash than disappearing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xcey_ufXalI

There is also a series that you can find on YouTube called "Air Crash Investigation", which covers different planes crashes/malfunctions/disappearances in each 45 min episode.

[–]Syphiliticc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found Air Crash Investigation over-dramatized it a bit too much but I've only seen a couple of episodes so maybe I just have a jaded view. I'll give it another go.

Thanks :)

[–]sendaboat 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This plane was not missing but the documentary is about finding out why it crashed. I found it interesting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-9X8IlmEKQ

[–]Syphiliticc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh not spotted that one before, thanks! I'll give it a watch tonight.

[–]BlameItOnMyADHD 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Hi.

I am looking for a documentary series by the BBC called The Beauty of Maps. It's a 4-episode series and is about the design and illustration of maps. I've already found episode 2 on vimeo but can't find the entire series

Thanks

[–]jmose86 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Haven't watched myself but I found with a quick search. Do you mean you have found eps 1 and 2 and are looking for 3 and 4, or have you only found 2 and missing the other 3?

Anyway, these seem OK but I only just checked 5 seconds so I can't vouch for them completely:

ep 1

ep 2 just in case

ep 3

ep 4

[–]BlameItOnMyADHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i have ep 2 and missing the other three. will check these out later

[–]Tanaka-san 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[Request] I'm looking for documentaries on conflict minerals but not diamonds. More like cassiterite, gold ore, and common minerals found in every day appliances we all use.

Anyone know of any? Thanks!

[–]jmose86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe Vice has a couple short ones. One is "South Africa's Illegal Gold Mines". They have also done one on gold mining somewhere in South America (sorry I forget). The latter isn't strictly about "conflict" minerals though. It's more about the third world mining practices which include dangerous methods and claim jumping.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. There appears to be a couple other short docs I see in a quick youtube search but I haven't seen any of them.

[–]JonAce 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]WooTs_67 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Looking for something in the same realm as Quantum Physics or something. A good doc that will get me thinking.

I have seen probably everything on Youtube.

[–]jmose86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check out the episode listing for the PBS show Nova. It has a lot of episodes dedicated to QP and similar. You have probably seen a lot of them on Youtube, but they might not all be there so you could check out the episode titles to see if there are any you missed.

Particle Fever is a good doc about the particle accelerator at CERN. It's not strictly QP focused, but a portion of it talks about theoretical physics including QP and related stuff.

[–]righteousrobot 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I am looking for documentaries on ancient life, preferably before humans, but also neanderthals. I've watched all of the ones on Netflix (Walking With Beasts/Dinosaurs/Monsters, Your Inner Fish, etc.) and am looking for more.

I'm also interested in the evolution of the universe, but I found a few in the Science topic thread I plan on going through.

Thank you :>

[–]jmose86 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Physicist Professor Brian Cox has a number of good BBC series that covers your subjects in varying ways and degrees. In order of their airing:

Wonders of the Universe

Wonders of the Solar System

Wonders of Life

Human Universe

Each are ~5 episode miniseries and cover a range of topics on evolution of the universe and life. Presentation good and is similar in style to (although less CGI than) Cosmos, which you should also definitely watch if you haven't already.

There is Miracle Planet, which was a Canada TV doc miniseries that covers the different periods of the evolution of the planet, from it's development and evolution. Has some interesting stuff about early life in the latter episodes.

Plenty of others for universe only stuff. There are the series on History and Discovery channel, The Universe, and How The Universe Works, respectively. They are more basic in their presentation sometimes with just a bunch of talking head experts and some visuals.

edit: also for early life stuff, check out David Attenborough's filmography. He has a few nature series that cover evolution.

[–]righteousrobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much more than I expected! Thank you

[–]Awkwardcriminal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any good docs on...

Sargon of Akkad

Akkadian Empire

Sumerians

Sargon was the first emperor of the first empire, thats something I find really interesting but I cant find a doc about it. Want "good" docs or even video lectures on these. No ancient aliens/annunaki/niburu crap please. Only interested in real historical stuff. Its a long shot I know.

[–]Fridhemsplan 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Looking for documentaries about life in prison, that focuses on the prisoners and their activities (daily life, gangs, relationships etc.). Something in the style of Louis Theroux Behind Bars in San Quentin (can be viewed here: https://archive.org/details/BehindBarsInSanQuentin-LouisTheroux), which I love. Any ideas?

[–]wordplayar 2 points3 points  (1 child)

there is a great one about a prison in brazil called "o prisioneiro da grade de ferro / the prisoner of the iron bars" (2003) that i can't find a stream with english subtitles at the moment (but it does exist) - the prisoners basically run the gaol and even get leave for the weekend etc, the prisoners were given cameras and film parts of the documentary. here is a youtube link, but again i cant find the subtitles at the minute (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrVf-MV0USs)

[–]Fridhemsplan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds great, thanks!

[–]Giddius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking for documentaries about the Holy Roman Empire and the Habsburg dynasty.

[–]Vladie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any good Boko Haram documentaries out there? If not, I'd settle for some good ISIS ones (I've seen the VICE ones).

[–]hungariannastyboy 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Okay so I'm looking to get into a little "project" (not really a project honestly in the sense of me doing anything actively, I'll just have to sit and watch/listen). I'd like to watch documentaries on/pertaining to as many countries as I can (might be difficult to do for smaller island nations and the like) - just to get a glimpse of each of them - this is by no means a way to gain a deeper understanding of them, obviously, which would require a lot of reading and research, but that's not my goal with this.

So, my question is, how do you guys think I should go about figuring out which documentary is most worthy of my time for each country? You can also give me recommendations if anything comes to mind (it can be anything - history, politics, current events or ongoing conflicts in the country, culture, sports, the only important point is that each of these should preferably feature only one country in some capacity, but not necessarily).

Thanks! :-)

[–]wordplayar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok, for the cetral african rebublic i choose "the ambassador" (2011) {https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dtj1Dp46FsY}

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Is there a Documentary about Japan's history and/or Chinese history? I have no idea about those countries' past and I want to get a general idea. Thank you very much.

[–]lewisthomson33 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Hi, my Dad and I are looking for a documentary he watched back in the 80s about British Bare Knuckle boxing. The information he has given me is that the boxer is bald. As you probably guessed im having an incredibly hard time finding it and was just wondering if anyone here can help? I know the chances are slim but i refuse to believe there is any tv show in existence not listed on the internet.

[–]OrjanNC 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Any good documentaries about coffee? Both its history or how its produced. Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

[–]lloremipsum 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Looking for some hard core documentaries. Non PC documentaries maybe, drug documentaries, war through the eyes of the enemy etc.

[–]wordplayar 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I am not sure which regime you are associated with so it is hard to define who the enemy is. that aside vice does alot of pieces embedded with the islamic front/ anti assad groups in syria (though i am not implying you are pro assad) - ghosts of allepo was the one that i found most interesting ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiyyWiO-IKY ). as for drug docs the user above mentioned a few good ones, - black tar heroin, wild and wonderful whites. tell us which docs you like/have seen already.

just adding narco cultura - a very frank look at the drug 'wars' in mexico. also try el sicario room 164 (i couldnt find subtitles when i looked for it though)

A short clip popped up on r/combatfootage today about the RAF and spitfire's in WW2. Wondering if there are any docs out there specifically on arial combat im WW2. Thanks!

I got done watching Trinity and Beyond...for like the 4th time.

To me, this is a fascinating documentary. It has very little "chit-chat", entirely dialogue by declassified footage, documents, and more. Not to mention, they explain the significance behind each test and accurately portraying the terror of these bombs with an amazing score.

I'm hoping to find a documentary, similar to this. I thoroughly enjoyed Fog of War as well. But Trinity and Beyond squeezed comes out a little more on top.

Can anyone recommend any docos on par with it? Not necessarily has to do with a-bombs, although I do find the history behind them fascinating...but really any recommended solid docos on pre-vietnam?

Thanks in advance!

Would love to see, and have been looking for, The Man Who Forged America - about Mark Hoffman's escapades (if you can call forgery and planting bombs escapades) with forging documents that the Mormon church was eager to get its hands on. It's a fascinating story and I've read the book The Mormon Murders but can't seem to find the documentary anywhere. I think it's a bit old (90s?).

[–]TooManyCookz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been seeing commercials about the premiere or a doc about a old guy who's accused of killing 8 people and changing his identity each time or something.

I distinctly recall a woman saying "he's already killed 8 people" near the end of the commercial.

I thought this was an HBO doc but apparently not, it's nowhere on their site. I guess it's not Showtime either.

At this point, I feel like I've imagined these commercials or something. I can find no mention of it anywhere online.

Anyone have any idea what doc I'm talking about???

[–]MovieSuperFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched 'Fury'. Now I'm in the mood to watch the best WWII tank documentaries you can recommend. So, please do.

[–]prettygirls_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friends! I'm new to the documentary world. I recently got surprise dumped and have taken a liking to documentaries to pass the time and increase my knowledge.

I've been watching history, paranormal, health, etc. But I'd be interested in a documentary about feng shui or the art of decoration in terms of qi and flow, etc. If anyone knows of something good I would very much appreciate it!

I am desperately searching for the documentary "The Singularity" by Doug Wolens. Neither Amazon nor Itunes Streaming is working for me, because I happen to live in Germany and the streams aren't available here. VPN/Proxy workarounds didn't work too. I also can't find any DVDs or Blurays. So turning to the dark side, but same story here: Torrents aren't available on this. No stream websites, no Warez-Websites provide this documentary.

First time in my Internetlife I couldn't manage to get something that is out there, so: Reddit, can you help?

[–]PlasticGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know where I can view the docu "I Am Eleven?" It came out in 2012, but you still can hardly watch it anywhere. I think it's on iTunes for like $25 but I don't have Apple anything and $25 is way high. It's not on Hulu, or Netflix, and I've spent an hour looking for a torrent or a streaming site. Nothing, nothing nothing. The only torrent - "maxspeed" - is bogus. Having a similar problem with "Code Black" which came out in 2014.

I'm looking for a documentary about USA post 9/11. I saw it a long time ago and after googling i can't find it. I believe it was French, and i think it was cut into a couple/three episodes. It was a real high quality series containing interviews of several important people in the war in afghanistan etc. Really hope someone could help me out on this one!

edit: as far as I can recall it didn't focus on the actual warfare but more on the geopolitics.

I'm looking for a documentary about the transatlantic internet connections - a guy goes around to the different internet exchange points and tries to figure out how it all works... does anyone know the title?

[–]Vonbrawn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There was a video posted earlier today with a few hundred upvotes, but it was soon deleted, it appears by the OP. It was a preview of the soon to be released Hitchcock Holocaust documentary. The title of the post was "Night Will Fall (2015) | The HBO documentary uncovering Alfred Hitchcock's shelved Holocaust film shot in 1945."

Does anybody know if / where a mirror of this exists? I watched 2/3 of it, had to pause it with the intent to return, but it was removed shortly afterward. I'd really love to finish it.

[–]Freddy216b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I;m looking for good doc about warships during the world wars. This can be about the battles or the ship itself and events surrounding it. As long as it's focused well and a well written doc anything would be appreciated.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm looking for a documentary that's got the wtf factor. I watched The Imposter and by the end of it, my husband and I were looking at each other like "no way! This story is nuts ." The second best we've got the that wtf factor was Catfish. (Those guys were really sweet to that lady, btw.) do you guys have any recommendations?

[–]MrMissingLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm finished with three years of school and I'm now about to start searching for a jobb. I have a bachlor degree inn media production. This means I've learned to plan, shoot, edit and make animations for videos, simply be a one-man-show. I would like to work with directing documentaries, but since I'm just out of school I'm guessing I'll have to work my way up (and I'm fine with that). My question is how do I apply for jobs? And how do I approach the fact that, at the moment, I'll take what ever job I can get? So far I've sent emails to the production companies that I know off, but they just dismiss them. Should I rather just show up at their doorstep? And what kind of position is good to aim at to grow inn to the director role? All help is appreciated!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not sure if this will be seen here now, will repost on next month's thread, but do you guys have any whale documentaries? Specifically sperm whales, if at all possible. Thanks!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey, I am looking for some documentaries on Saudi Arabia. I'm interested in it's rise to power, How it transformed itself, it's oil and I also would like to see how the upper class live and by that I mean the very rich.

Thanks

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The Saudi Royal Family (46 min.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raNVgqxW9Us

This documentary does not really go into the luxury lifestyle of the very rich but it does go into great detail about the rise of the house of Saud.

[–]drhappycat 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm looking for docs on Mt. Everest climbing expeditions. Thanks in advance!

[–]smidddy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I was wondering if there is anything out there that is similar to Ross Kemp, Donal MacIntyre, Louis Theroux (Johannesburg, Philadelphia, Lagos), Worlds toughest cops type of stuff out there that I have simply missed over the years or have been newly released or upcoming. I find these Docs to be absolutely captivating and have watched all above-mentioned series several times and am busting for more.

Cheers Guys!

Reposting my December comment:

Anybody have a decent documentary on history of North Korea? Majority of North Korea related documentaries I've come across deal with its current state and those that have defected, but so little deal exclusively with the nation's history.

I've seen this documentary that deals in great details the Korean War on both sides, but it doesn't focus on the North Korea before and after the war.

Looking for a good independent/freelance documentary on the history of Israel/Palestinian conflicts ?

[–]desmonduz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abundance of documentaries about North Korea, could not find anything about Turkmenistan (hermit kingdom in Central Asia) which is even tougher when it comes to cult of personality and total control.
