Brazen thief caught in the act: woman snatches purse from trolley

Police are hunting for a brazen thief who targeted an elderly woman in a Mundaring Shopping Centre on Saturday.

At around 10.55am on Saturday, a 79-year-old Stoneville woman was shopping at a supermarket on Hartung Street.

79 year old woman's purse snatched at supermarket

Police are calling for information over purse snatch at a supermarket in Mundaring.

Her brown handbag was zipped up in the front of her trolley.

As the victim began to browse in the fruit and vegetable section, another woman with a leopard headscarf approaches her.

In CCTV footage the woman watches her victim carefully and waits until she looks away to make her move.

The offender quickly unzips the 79-year-old's handbag.

She stops and moves away when the 79-year-old turns back to her trolley, but strikes again when she stops to look at an item on a shelf.

The offender then snatches the woman's purse and leaves the store.

WA Police said the woman is described as olive skinned, approximately 40-50 years old with a solid build.

She was wearing three quarter length black tights, a white top under a black cardigan, black shoes and a leopard print head scarf.
