The Sulu Sea is a body of water in the southwestern area of the Philippines, separated from the South China Sea in the northwest by Palawan and from the Celebes Sea in the southeast by the Sulu Archipelago. Borneo is found to the southwest and Visayas to the northeast.
Sulu Sea contains a number of islands. The Cuyo Islands and Cagayan Sulu are part of the province of Palawan whereas Mapun and the Turtle Islands are part of the province of Tawi-Tawi. Sulu Sea is also where the Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park, one of the World Heritage Sites is located.
The International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) defines the Sulu Sea as being one of the waters of the East Indian Archipelago. The IHO defines its limits as follows:
On the Northeast. The Southwest coast of Mindoro to Buruncan Point, its Southern extreme, thence a line through Semirara and Caluya Islands to Nasog Point (11°53′N 121°53′E / 11.883°N 121.883°E / 11.883; 121.883) the Northwestern extreme of Panay, along the West and Southeast coast of that island to Tagubanhan Island (11°08′N 123°07′E / 11.133°N 123.117°E / 11.133; 123.117), thence a line to the Northern extreme of Negros and down the West coast to Siaton Point, its Southern extreme, thence across to Tagolo Point (8°44′N 123°22′E / 8.733°N 123.367°E / 8.733; 123.367), Mindanao.
Sulu (Tausūg: سوگ, Sūg; Chavacano: Provincia de Sūlū; Filipino: Lalawigan ng Sulu) is an autonomous archipelago province in the Philippines, located in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). Its capital is Jolo and the primary/main island of the same name occupies the middle part of the group of islands in the Sulu Archipelago, between Basilan and Tawi-Tawi.
The peaceful advent of Islam around 1138 through merchants and traders had a distinct influence on Southeast Asia. The coming of Arabs, Persians and other Muslims paved the way for the arrival of religious missionaries, traders, scholars and travelers to Sulu and Mindanao in the 12th century.
A landmark born of the social process was the founding of the Sultanate of Sulu. Year 1380 CE, Karim-ul Makhdum came to Sulu and introduced Islam to the Philippines. Year 1450 CE, a Johore-born Arab adventurer, Sayyid Abubakar Abirin came to Sulu and lived with Rajah Baguinda Ali, eventually marrying his daughter Dayang-dayang Paramisuli and eventually inheriting Rajah Baguinda's polity (which was a principality before) and turning it into a sultanate. Sayyid Abubakar eventually inherited the rule of Rajah Baguinda, established the Sultanate of Sulu and became its first Sultan. To consolidate his rule, Sayyid Abubakar united the local political units under the umbrella of the Sultanate. He brought Sulu, Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan and Basilan under its aegis.

The jewel in the crown of Filipino dive destinations, Tubbataha is a fabulous place to dive. You may not get lucky every time going out there, but more often than not something will crop up that'll get your heart racing with excitement. This year I did 2 trips, one with OnMedia/UNESCO/TMO on board the WWF boat M/V Navorca and one on board the Hans Christian Andersen dive cruise ship - both amazing trips. To choose one word to summarise both trips....easy.... MANTA!!!!!

Forexworld Travel: Top 10 Philippine Destinations Palawan is one of the real treasures of the Philippines. Stretching from the Mindoro Strait down to the tip of Borneo, it is a magnificent, coral-fringed range of jungle-clad mountainous islands jutting up dramatically from the Sulu Sea. The flora and fauna in Palawan is quite unique to the island, and is said to have more in common with that of Borneo than with the rest of the Philippines. Due in equal parts to its rugged topography, its small population and its distance from other islands in the archipelago, Palawan has managed to stay largely pristine.

Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia September 9, 2016 President Rodrigo Roa Duterte met with members of the Filipino Community on the second day of his working visit in Indonesia. Speaking before hundreds of Filipinos gathered at the Grand Ballroom of Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta, President Duterte said that he is in Indonesia to talk to Indonesian President Joko Widodo about maritime security in the territorial jurisdiction of their respective countries. This follows the issues pertaining to a series of kidnappings of foreign nationals who are mostly Indonesians in Southern Philippines earlier this year. “I am here to get an agreement with him because there is so much piracy in the seas,” the President said. According to Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Maria Lumen B...

When Annis built this cage
I saw the blueprint on the table
But I was too young to run
She lured me from my play
To her clandestine domain
To tend her illicit garden
Black, black soul
And Annis takes her toll
And from her veil of black
With all the mirrors at her back
She called me into her guarded empire
I treaded soft and lightly
Fear trembling so slightly
Snows in my bones I dream of the white sea
Chorus:
Black, black soul
And Annis takes her toll
Child of sin
Black Annis wins again
When Annis roared and jeered
I knew that no one leaves from here
Her fervid anger don't spare anything
In the frenzy of my senses
She confiscated my defenses
With all the forces of night
When Annis built this cage
I saw the blueprint on the table
But I was too young to run
She lured me from my play
To her clandestine domain
To tend her illicit garden
(Chorus 2x)
