David "Dave" Gahan (/ˈɡɑːn/; born David Callcott; 9 May 1962) is an English singer-songwriter, best known as the baritone lead singer for the electronic music band Depeche Mode since their debut in 1980. He is also an accomplished solo artist, releasing albums in 2003 (Paper Monsters) and 2007 (Hourglass). Though his bandmate Martin Gore continues to be the main Depeche Mode songwriter, Gahan has also contributed a number of songs to the band's most recent albums; Playing the Angel (2005), Sounds of the Universe (2009) and Delta Machine (2013). Three of these songs were released as singles, including "Suffer Well" in 2005, "Hole to Feed" in 2009, and "Should Be Higher" in 2013. In 2012 & 2015, he also contributed lyrics and sang lead vocals on the Soulsavers albums The Light the Dead See and Angels & Ghosts. Q magazine ranked Gahan no. 73 on the list of the "100 Greatest Singers" and no. 27 on "The 100 Greatest Frontmen".
Gahan was born as David Callcott into a working-class family, to parents Len Callcott (a bus driver) and his wife Sylvia (a conductress or "clippy" on London buses), Dave was only six months old when his father left the family. Sylvia and Len divorced two years later and his mother moved Dave and sister Sue (born 1960) to Basildon, Essex, after Sylvia met and married her second husband Jack Gahan (an administrator with Shell Oil). The Gahan family continued to grow with the birth of two more half-brothers Peter (born 1966) and Phil (born 1968). Dave and Sue were raised under the impression that their mother's second husband, Jack, was their natural father.

"Need You" is a 1967 single by Sonny James. The single went to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart where it spent two weeks at the top. "Need You" spent a total of seventeen weeks on the chart.
"Need You" is known as the song that began a string of 16 consecutive single releases that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart without a miss. The string would continue into 1971, capped by the song "Here Comes Honey Again," the string finally being broken in 1972 with "Only Love Can Break a Heart." The string of 16 consecutive (non-holiday) single releases would be surpassed in 1985 by the country supergroup Alabama; the band would go on to have 21 No. 1 songs in a row, and to date is the only act to match James' record.

Dave Gahan - I Need You (Rock Am Ring, 2003)
"I Need You" is a song by Depeche Mode vocalist Dave Gahan and is the second single from his 2003 debut album, Paper Monsters. It was released in late August 2003 after the first single, "Dirty Sticky Floors", and reached number 27 in the UK Singles Chart. The single was completely remixed by Alan Moulder for single release, with new vocals and a new musical structure, being quicker and cleaner than the album version. Lyrics: I need you I need you I need you I need you I'm asking my friend I need you again Can you do something for me Time it just passed and we had some laughs Maybe it's just about greed You'll always need me much more Than I need you You'll always need me much more I need you I'll ask you again but I don't think you've changed You neve...

Depeche Mode - Interview with Dave Gahan. 2017 “We’re really kind of upset about what’s going on in the world,” says Dave Gahan at the start of our interview. Depeche Mode’s singer stopped by to discuss his iconic band’s new album, ‘Spirit,’ a record with political overtones and a thoughtful character that reminds listeners of the self-determination we all share. Regarding the title, Gahan says “we all have a consciousness, and anytime we want we can stop and choose to feel what’s really going on there. We all know when something’s not right.” Depeche Mode introduced itself to the world in 1981 with the catchy synth-pop of ‘Speak & Spell.’ Martin Gore’s writing well matched Gahan’s sensual vocals, and beloved records such as ‘Construction Time Again’ and ‘Violator,” made them one the er...
