Australian Open: De Minaur leads Australian winners on day 1

Hope springs eternal on the first day of any grand slam tennis event, but local fans have every reason to be excited about the future after the Australian Open kicked off on Monday.
Seventeen-year-old Alex de Minaur became the first Australian to win at the Open at that age since his mentor Lleyton Hewitt in 1999, while Jaimee Fourlis, also 17, was another first-round winner on a day when several locals put in impressive performances.
