The man, who suffered injuries to his leg, is undergoing surgery at Royal Perth Hospital and is in a stable condition according to 9 News Perth.

Reporter Scott Cunningham said the ute then smashed into another ute parked nearby.

"A ute has lost control and crashed into a rubbish truck, then crashed into a parked van on the side of the road which has ended up on the footpath," he told Radio 6PR.

"The ute itself ended up probably another 30 metres down the road and the impact at the front of the ute has caved in part of it and the wheel has ended up another 20 or 30 metres down the street."

Mr Cunningham said it appeared police may have been following the ute down Roe Street.

"The ute looks like to have crossed across the road side of the road...you can see the skid marks when it has lost control and crashed into the rubbish truck that was parked on the side of the road," he said.

"We did speak to someone this morning that said the driver may have tried to make a run for it and one of the passengers that was also in the car at the time."

The driver and his passengers are assisting police with enquiries.

Roe Street in Northbridge has been closed in both directions amd major crash detectives are investigating the crash.
