Enter the last couple of weeks of the holiday and everyone's looking forward to the beginning of term.  The end is in sight, normality will soon resume and your sanity may still be in tact….just.

So what better way to get through these last few weeks than a bit of music?  After all, we have music for our workouts, music for relaxation and music to which we love to dance.  So, why shouldn't we have a playlist specifically for these summer holidays too?

Here I present the top ten school holidays playlist for parents;

Leave me alone – Michael Jackson

In between food prep, entertainment and sibling refereeing, there's little downtime for yourself.  But you need it to stay sane.  In fact there's days when you just want to scream, 'Leave me alone!  Just stop following me around!'

Anything for love (but I won't do that) – Meatloaf

Rainy days are hard to fill.  There are only so many games and activities you can play at home.  But when it comes to getting desperate, there's always indoor soft play centres.  On second thoughts, I will do anything for love, but I won't do that.

Help! – Beatles

Help, you know I need somebody.  Help, not just anybody.  Help, you know I need somebody pleeeease. Can we start with a cleaner, a psych, a nanny and a chef?  Anything else is a bonus!

Emotions – Mariah Carey

Kids elicit multiple emotions in us parents.  One minute they make our hearts melt, the next they see us steaming with rage. You got us feeling emotions kids, deeper than we ever dreamed of.

What's going on? – Four Non Blondes

You wake in the morning and you step outside, you take a deep breath and you get real high, and then you hear the kids fighting already! So, you scream at the top of your lungs, 'What's going on?'

Tonight's gonna be (a good night) – Black Eyed Peas

The kids have been at the beach all morning, the trampoline park all afternoon and by five pm their eyes are hanging out of their heads.  Sleep is starting to take hold.  Yay you think.  You got a feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night!

Red Wine – UB40

Is there ever a more necessary time to drink than during the school holidays?  Sure, red wine might go straight to your head but right now you want it to stay close to you and never leave.

Tubthumping – Chumbawumba

Some days in the holidays it's downright exhausting.  But try to remember, you're strong.  You get knocked down, but you get up again.  Those kids are never gonna keep you down.

*Alternatively, drink a whisky drink, a vodka drink, a lager drink and a cider drink!

TNT – AC/DC

Holidays and a tidy house are much like oil and water.  They never blend together.  So, some days you just have to accept that the house is plain old messy and other days it looks like its been blown up by TNT, dynamite!

I will survive – Gloria Gaynor

Remember that holidays don't last forever, though it might feel that way.  Remember that you will survive and, as long as you know how to love, you know you'll stay alive (albeit with a few more grey hairs and a bigger stock of wine).

*Not actually recommended, particularly given the monster hangover (with kids) that will give you the next day!
