The friend called an ambulance and attempted to cool Mr Hall down by pouring water on him.
7 News reported Mr Hall's body temperature had reached 42 degrees, which had caused his organs to shut down.
Paramedics attempted CPR but were unable to revive him.
He died at the scene of critical heat stroke, just as a rescue helicopter landed.
His wife, Emily, told 7 News the death of her "best friend" and "soul mate" had come just two weeks before the birth of their first child.
"I can't fathom life without him but my strength is knowing he will live through his son," she said.
"I will love him enough for the two of us and I will make sure I do Matt proud and be the best mum to him."
