Lord Snowdon's coffin is carried to a secluded Welsh church by Land Rover for an intimate funeral as family say goodbye to Princess Margaret's photographer ex-husband after his death at 86. Lord Snowdon was today laid to rest at a secluded Welsh church during an intimate funeral attended by just a handful of close family and friends. In an understated tribute to the society photographer, the small funeral cortege made its way through the spectacular north Wales countryside - close to his family home - before arriving at St Baglan's Church in the remote village of Llanfaglan near Caernarfon. Perhaps reflecting his dislike of convention, Lord Snowdon's coffin was taken to the remote church in a dark green Land Rover - which was adorned with a wreath of white roses - rather than in a traditional hearse. In stirring scenes, mourners then walked some 150 yards across the field to the Grade I-listed building - which stands alone in an isolated field - as a single bell tolled. After a 30-minute memorial, the coffin was taken outside for the burial, where Lord Snowdon was laid to rest in the family's plot in the churchyard, overlooking the Menai Strait. Before arriving at the ccoffin hurch, the unusual cortege had gone slowly past Caernarfon Castle where Eton-educated Lord Snowdon played a key role in the investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales in 1969. During their marriage, Lord Snowdon and Princess Margaret regularly spent weekends in North Wales and, after their divorce, Lord Snowdon maintained his connections with the region. With just a small group of family and friends in attendance, today's memorial event could not have been further removed from Lord Snowdon's marriage to Princess Margaret, when the golden couple were at the heart of London society in the Swinging Sixties. Arriving at the church, many of the mourners marvelled at the beauty of the church.
