This month I was visiting my parents living in Dubai and I took the chance to make a video about the Burj Khalifa, while I was there. The building is amazing and the engineering behind it is fascinating. In this video we will learn about vortex shedding and mass dampers.

An Indian mechanic-turned-businessman owns an incredible 22 apartments in the popular Burj Khalifa, a media report said today. George V Nereaparambil says he is not stopping at 22 and will continue to buy more if he gets a "good deal". "If I get a good deal, I'll buy more. I am a dreamer and I never stop dreaming," he told Khaleej Times. The Kerala-born is believed to be one of the largest private owners within the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest structure.

Burj Khalifa (Arabic: برج خليفة "Khalifa Tower"), known as Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest manmade structure in the world, at 2,723 feet. Construction began on September 21, 2004, with the exterior of the structure completed on October 1, 2009. The building officially opened on January 4, 2010. It is part of the development called Downtown Dubai at the 'First Interchange' along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Dubai's main business district. The total cost for the project was about $1.5 billion US; and for the entire "Downtown Dubai" development, $20 billion US.
The Dubai Fountain is a record-setting choreographed fountain system set on the 30-acre manmade Burj Khalifa Lake, at the center of the Downtown Dubai development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Illuminated by 6,600 lights and 25 colored projectors, it is 902 feet long and shoots water 240 feet into the air accompanied by a range of classical to contemporary Arabic and world music. It was built at a cost of 218 million U.S. dollars.

Set on the 30-acre Burj Khalifa Lake, the fountain shoots water jets as high as 500 ft (150 metres), equivalent to that of a 50-storey building. The fountain is 900 ft (275 metres) long and has five circles of varying sizes and two central arcs. It has been designed by California-based WET, the creators of the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas.
The Dubai Fountain performs daily, with the performance repertoire including Sama Dubai; Baba Yetu, an award-winning song in Swahili; the Arab world’s top-selling dance number Shik Shak Shok; and the signature piece of world-renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, Con te partiro (Time to Say Goodbye).

Burj Khalifa
Burj Khalifa (Arabic: برج خليفة, "Khalifa Tower", pronounced English /ˈbɜːrdʒ kəˈliːfə/), known as Burj Dubai before its inauguration, is a megatall skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the tallest artificial structure in the world, standing at 829.8 m (2,722 ft).
Construction of Burj Khalifa began in 2004, with the exterior completed in 2009. The primary structure is reinforced concrete. The building opened in 2010, as part of the new development called Downtown Dubai. It is designed to be the centerpiece of large-scale, mixed-use development. The decision to build the building is reportedly based on the government's decision to diversify from an oil-based economy, and for Dubai to gain international recognition. The building was named in honor of the ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Abu Dhabi and the UAE government lent Dubai money to pay its debts. The building broke numerous height records.
Burj Khalifa was designed by Adrian Smith then of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM), whose firm also designed the Willis Tower and the One World Trade Center. Hyder Consulting was chosen to be the supervising engineer with NORR Group Consultants International Limited chosen to supervise the architecture of the project. The design of Burj Khalifa is derived from patterning systems embodied in Islamic architecture, incorporating cultural and historical elements particular to the region such as the spiral minaret. The Y-shaped plan is designed for residential and hotel usage. A buttressed core structural system is used to support the height of the building, and the cladding system is designed to withstand Dubai's summer temperatures. A total of 57 elevators and 8 escalators are installed, with the elevators having a capacity of 12 to 14 people per cabin.

Burj Khalifa (Arabic: برج خليفة "Khalifa Tower"), known as Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest manmade structure in the world, at 2,723 feet. Construction began on September 21, 2004, with the exterior of the structure completed on October 1, 2009. The building officially opened on January 4, 2010. It is part of the development called Downtown Dubai at the 'First Interchange' along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Dubai's main business district. The total cost for the project was about $1.5 billion US; and for the entire "Downtown Dubai" development, $20 billion US.
The Dubai Fountain is a record-setting choreographed fountain system set on the 30-acre manmade Burj Khalifa Lake, at the center of the Downtown Dubai development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Illuminated by 6,600 lights and 25 colored projectors, it is 902 feet long and shoots water 240 feet into the air accompanied by a range of classical to contemporary Arabic and world music. It was built at a cost of 218 million U.S. dollars.

I took a ride in the Burj Khalifa's lift that zips up at 10 meters per second to arrive at the observation deck, what i saw was mind blowing.
The Burj Khalifa is definitely worth visiting, the photo's and view you have from the observation deck is simply amazing.

Number 5 is the Burj Khalifa, currently the world's tallest building. This impressive, 2,716 foot, 160-story waterfront building, serves several purposes including hotel, retail, office, and residential space. Towering over the city, Burj Khalifa holds many records for height and occupancy.
Number 4 - The dynamic 'Princess Tower' has more than 100 floors and is over 1,350 feet tall. Engrossing more than three quarters of an acre of land, the giant dome topped tower houses more than 760 apartments ranging in size from 1 to 4 bedrooms. As the name implies, Princess Tower won't be lacking in high-end amenities.

United Arab Emirates is one country that was on the top of my bucket list. I always thought it was be a really cool place to visit for a honeymoon but when I found an amazing deal, I could not resist! I visited Abu Dhabi and Dubai with 12 of my friends and brother in March. The experience was much greater than I expected. I stayed for only 4 days but I got to experience some of the top must see sights and experiences. I really would love to go back to Dubai and Abu Dhabi for at least a full week to really experience the local culture...but until then watch my 4 day experience as I take you to:

She went on a multi-city book tour and appeared on The Today Show to speak about her writings. Born and raised in Vancouver, she is a summa cum laude graduate of Columbia University, and has a JD from Yale Law School.
As a TV host, La Carmina has appeared on The Doctors and The Today Show, and co-presented the Japan episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern for Travel Channel, which airs in 75 countries. NHK Japan filmed two documentaries about her work including Kawaii TV. Her television hosting and fixing credits include Food Network, National Geographic, Pro Sieben, Fuel, Discovery Channel, Dutch Pepsi, Sony Australia, Canal Plus France, Norway TV (NRK), Mexico Tourism Board, and CNN. La Carmina hosts, writes, arranges and field produces her own travel video series filmed worldwide including Dubai, Maldives, Mexico.
